Is there a discount for students? How much would a new Mac Book run me there?

The same it would run you at the apple store with a student id.I think they only take off like 50$ or something. Not much.[Edited on April 17, 2008 at 10:16 AM. Reason : ]

I wonder what would happen if you googled the ncsu bookstore and looked up the prices

Just checked there. For a mac book they want 1382. Apple store wants 1299. The student one has a slightly bigger hd (40 gig bigger). I would just go to the apple store and see if they still give student discounts.

Whatever the prices you see on the apple store's website for a student discounted laptop, that's what you pay at the NCSU Bookstore. The deal is that the Bookstore actually buys the laptop directly through the apple website with the discount (people usually do this because they can get their software and such the bookstore during the tax free holiday and save the extra 6.75%, sometimes saving an additional $30-80 depending on what promo the bookstore is running as far as free printers & getting a laptop as part of a bulk shipment). The Bookstore website has always been out of date and fairly inaccurate, and it'd be great if they'd just put something on there to the effect of "apple pricing may vary, see apple's educational store for up to date pricing".But yeah, that's that. If you wanna see if the Bookstore has any deals on mac books (i.e. laptops that customers didn't buy or returned or what have you, and now the Bookstore is stuck with $1800 of non-moving merchandise that they'll get rid of for $1400 or something), just contact the manager of the computer department, Randy Davis, at this email address: rddavis3@unity.ncsu.eduAgain, the best time to buy a computer there is over the summer for the fall, specifying that you want them to process your order on the tax free holiday. That way you can get your macbook and any tax exempt accessories/software, along with whatever other deals they're offering (they had like a $25 off deal if you got a computer as part of a bulk order (which meant your order would take a little longer to show up), plus another $50 off if you decided that you didn't want the free Canon MP160 printer they were offering). That's where the savings are, unless Randy's got something hanging around there that nobody will buy. There, straight from an ex-horse's mouth, hopefully this helps.

best idea: get a refurb from the apple store online + student discountthe refurbs are, for all intents and purposes, equivalent to their new counterparts

yea ive been lookin at a refurb macbook. Where can you put online that you are student though? Ive kind of gone through the checkout process and cant find it. Or would I have to go to the store to do it?
