Not surprised. All the transplants go to the games, just to watch their favorite teams wail on the Nats (I'm waiting for the Cards in June). You don't need a high powered team for that.

The team also got a sweetheart deal in not having to pay anything to build the ballpark (the Lerners say they put in money for add-on amenities, but the ballpark was built by the City), and have a tiny payroll. Most fans come via metro, and DC paid for the station improvements as well. This means limited parking the team has to worry about, and the parking that is there is $$$. Everything at games is fairly expensive because of the DC market. Now if they would just invest some of that into the team...

They're still relatively new to the area, they're in a new ballpark and their payroll is something like $87. This shininess will wear off in a year or two and they'll be the Expos again: not spending money and not making any, either.[Edited on April 17, 2008 at 3:27 AM. Reason : ]

^looks like that was taken from pretty close to my seats on the club level (I'm in a season ticket club)
