I'm enrolled in Governmental Accounting this fall, but it really doesn't work out with my schedule, so I am curious if it's taught anywhere else around here online or just with a better time? I'm graduating this fall. Although, I guess I could come back in the Spring and take it post-bac, because it's not a degree requirement. I want it for the CPA exam, however, which I will be studying for and taking in the Spring. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks![Edited on April 16, 2008 at 10:06 AM. Reason : grammar]

Thanks, Chief, I appreciate it. Unfortunately that time still doesn't work for me, I have other commitments prior to ten everyday, so I need something after that or at night. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks.

If you are only looking to take it to prepare for the CPA exam, don't bother. Unless the exam has changed a lot in the past 3 years and has much more of an emphasis on governmental, its a waste of your time (and money). I never took a governmental accounting course and did fine.

^Thank you for the info. I had no idea. I wonder if that's why it's not offered too many places.^^I did google it and didn't come up with what I wanted, which is why I asked here, on the off chance that someone is taking one elsewhere next semester or off of the top of their heads knows where they might teach this class specifically. Additionally, not all schools allow outside access to their Fall schedules. Even so, your response was very helpful and if you'd like to keep the ideas coming; google, yahoo, or whatever, feel free, because I do so appreciate them. I also hope that we'll be working somewhere together in the future, so that we can look back on this moment and laugh about our beautiful moments together on TWW. Thanks for the laugh.

Hi JH34,I'll agree with mcmurry's post. As you know, I teach the financial review for our MAC CPA review program. Govt'l/NFP accounting comprises approx 20% of the financial exam and it's tested at a pretty basic level. A good review will be fine (either through a live review course or simply by diligently working through the two modules that are typically devoted to these topics--out of 14 modules total for Financial (in the Wiley CPA Review books we use)).Our course (ACC 410) is a great course--but it's an elective because it is important primarily for our undergrad's who will work for state or local governmental entities. I advise my students to try and take it if it will work in their schedules but I don't think it is necessary to sit through a semester of material if your primary goal is to be prepared for the CPA exam.Crude percentages on the financial exam (keyed to NC State courses) would be:ACC 310: 30%ACC 311: 30%ACC 410: 20%ACC 510: 10%ACC 511: 10%

sorry about my comment, i was celebrating early and had a lot to drink.... I think you are in the same boat as i, I only need a few acc classes outside my acc degree to reach the 30 hr requirement on the 150 hr cpa worksheet. I plan on taking acc 410 as part of this. As far as the cpa exam, my boss at my current job is a CPA and was a manager at E&Y for a while, he said that taking a review class, such as becker or something is a good prep. hope this helps! what is your concentration?
