I would have put this in another one of the CCW threads if search were working. I never drive across campus if I have a gun in the car, I'm just wondering if any parts of Hillsborough or Western are technically on campus, primarily that stretch of Western between Dan Allen and Gorman. I'm living in that area again and don't need the charges.

I would suggest calling someone at the university to be safe, maybe campus police. I have been told that that technically if you're on the university side of hilllsbourgh it is in violation to even have a firearm in your car, much less a concealed firearm. Think about how many people drive both those roads with a shotgun or rifle in their car everyday. I am not sure if this person had done any research on the matter, so i would call campus police at 515-3000 to make sure, you will probably get a receptionist that may not know the answer, so you should ask for an officer on duty or Sgt. Farmer. He is a great guy and will set you straight. I'm actually quite interested in what the rule is, so if you find out post it for everyone.[Edited on April 11, 2008 at 3:39 AM. Reason : .]

http://www.ncsu.edu/ncsu/public_safety/Department/Jurisdiction.htmlTechnically Campus Police has jurisdiction on any street passing through or adjacent to campus.http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/enactedlegislation/statutes/html/bysection/chapter_14/gs_14-269.2.htmlThe NC Statute prohibits guns from "educational property". Since those roads are public streets and not campus property, I wouldn't think it would apply.

Technically it is illegal to carry on Hiillsboro from what I have been told. Not totally sure on the accuracy though.
4/11/2008 7:58:37 AM
you should totally do it anyway and fight for your right to be armed on campus! what if there is a masked gunman? who will save the day if not for you and your concealed weapon on campus?

YEAH I TOTALLY NEED TO CARRY A GUN ON CAMPUS[/north carolina]
4/11/2008 9:16:24 AM
Unless you get pulled for a felony stop are you really that worried about it???The police can not search through your car and find your pistol locked in the glove compartment unless they have a warrant b.c you were doing something else wrong in the first place. I am sure there are plenty of unlawful people that actually carry their guns onto campus hidden. Afterall all those thugs i get emails about mugging people i am sure do not stash their 9mm's before going on their raids b.c guns are illegal on campus.

It isn't illegal for me to carry my concealed handguns on campus . Mine are all registered with the Campus Police.

I actually asked a cop last night and he had no idea what he was talking about as he told me flatly that I should be ok to carry on campus as long as I'm outdoors.

when they run your drivers license it will show that you have a NCCHP...your drivers license number is on your NCCHP...but your license plate tags are independent...what if I'm driving somebody else's carregardless they tell you to inform the officer that you're a permit holder and let him know what and where you're holding]

I just got off of the phone with campus police and apparently all of Hillsborough and Western are fine even though both streets are within their jurisdiction.

my ccw class instructor used dan allen specifically as an expample of where you could carry. its a city street, not university property. parking on hillsborough street is city property as well.

^^ You have a firm grasp of the obvious. Did you think that hadn't occurred to me or anyone else? I took a chance that they had actually researched the story. Take the info contained therein as you will--as is the case with any source.

Dan Allen Drive = On Campus, No CCWVarsity Drive, Hillsborough, Western = Not on Campus, but NCSU PD has jurisdiction there because it is adjacent to their property. Just because NCSU PD has jurisdiction there, doesn't mean its on campus property. Yes, CCW. No if you are walking on the campus side of the sidewalk on Hillsborough. That is a different story.
4/12/2008 11:40:50 AM
dan allen is real iffy and i wouldnt chance ityou can carry in your car going down pullen though. i have confirmed this with campus police. they said that since it is a city road that it is fine.
4/12/2008 12:45:47 PM
^^^^Just because I have a permit doesn't mean I need to disclose that unless I am carring a firearm. If I happen to get pulled and I dont' have a gun in my car, I am not obligated to give my CCP to the officer.
4/12/2008 2:04:19 PM
might as well do it though...that way the cop knows that you are a honest, law abiding citizen and you are more likely to get off easier
4/12/2008 2:55:29 PM
I just didn't want to get pulled for having a tail light out and end up getting slammed on the hood of my car.
4/12/2008 5:41:59 PM
^^^ I only took the CCW class 2 weeks ago, and after hearing first hand from two officers, they get real pissed off when you dont disclose that you're a CCW permit holder.Just keep your CCW permit behind your license, and if you have to show your ID to any officer, just hand them the CCW permit and disclose if you are or are not carryingIt doesnt appear that you're the type of guy to get your concealed permit anyhow
4/12/2008 10:55:32 PM
^ The cops get "pissed off" because you're required to reveal it.
