I am going to take MA 242 this summer and I was looking for feedback on someone who has taken the class in a 5-week session. How intense it. I was also thinking about taking ECE 209 with it. Is this too much. My advisor recommends that I don't take both in a single 5 week session.

I would probably follow your advisor's advise.

If you love math go for it. If not, walk away.

i took ma 241 last summer and according to everyone, calc II is supposed to be the hardest. I made a B+ in it and didnt think it was intense at all. no webassign or anything really. even though its 242, i think you should still be okay. just be prepared for an exam every week...

if you spend 30-45 on 242 outside of class each day, you should be able to make a decent grade--the class does require a bit of effort, but it doesn't take up your entire fucking day...i can't speak on 209

242 in my opinion will depend a lot on who your professor is, like any class. As long as they havent changed it from when I took it, it will require you to use Maple, which sucks totally if you have never seen it before like me. I got lucky and got old maples from people and used it that way.

as others have said, it depends on the teacher heavily, but i would normally advise against more than one academic class at a time if you're really considering any other classes during a 5-week session. those sessions are very fast IMO. listen to your advisor unless you really really need to take more than one.

^^^^That's what they say, but I thought Calc 3 was harder.

ma242 was harder for me... i'm horrible at thinking in more than 2 dimensionsi rocked the casbot on 241... but 242 kicked my ass

If you are good with imagining three dimensional space, you should be fine. However, if you have trouble "seeing" a graph in 3D, you might struggle with the course. I'm in 242 now, and I'm very glad I didn't take it over the summer. It's pretty confusing, and I'm grateful for the extra time to work on some of this stuff. That being said, I'll be attempting Applied Dif Eq second summer session. We'll see how that goes.[Edited on April 12, 2008 at 11:51 AM. Reason : definitely DON'T take two classes at a time]

I took 242 last Summer with Norris through Distance - but I took the 10 week session. It was really no problem at all. I don't even think I watched the DVDs.
