pretty sure i've done an oil change on that car oddly enough. if i remember, it could use some serious seal replacement underneath. clean ass car though. i love the door dingers on those... sounds like they got the ringers for the pinball machines and the pinball people got a BUZZZZ or something.

Damn, nice! What is that, a '78? Does it have the big 500 or was that out of production by that time?

nah, 500 went away in 76. that would have a 425. destroked/debored 472 basically.

also just to note since this thread sparked the thought... the 425 is the last decent engine cadillac made for almost 10 years. everything until the 4.5 in the late 80's was a horrific FAIL.

as a result of that, our generation tends to forget what a tremendous impact cadillac has had on the history of the automobile and advancement of technology. they have ALWAYS been at the forefront of taking the huge risk of putting unheard of technology into mass production. what other car company, foreign or domestic, can say that they've been gettin down like that since the 1900's are are still doing it today? i can't think of any, but maybe i've overlooked one.

i for one applaud cadillac for sticking to their guns and forging ahead 100 years later. goes to show some companies actually stick to the bullshit they advertise. below is one of the most famous ads ever produced, this is a good link explaining it. pretty cool to think about, and puts things into perspective when you want to call a company or person out for their shortcomings.

Yeah this car has all the kinds of cool shit, AM/FM stereo with the 40 channel Cadillac CB radio, automatic highbeams, power trunk pull-down, etc. Not to mention the requisite power locks, lightning quick power windows, the power antenna, intermittant wipers, cruise control, so on and so forth that made a Cadillac. And stuff that was rare in its day but you see on cars regularly these days like low fuel light. There is stuff that was a great idea but somehow dosent make it into production cars these days like "Stop Engine Overheat" and "Stop Engine Oil Pressure" warning lamps.

well the bodies and all the delco options were from fisher. and buick didnt get ANY thing from fisher before cadillac division. ever. cadillac got first shot at everything but FWD- they let olds take the gamble and it paid off so cadillac started makng fwd cars on teh same platform.

automatic highbeams work by utilizing a sensor mounted either on the exterior or on the dash. you turn on your highbeams and when it detects oncoming headlights, it switches them off until the car passes.

good stuff.

a friend has a penchant for old caddys, thus my knowledge.

tell y0 friend he's trippin.

those headlights react as a result of the wave lengths of oncoming light. kinda like your winshield wipers turn on with a difference in barometric pressure

my grandma had a cadillac with automatic high beams. they fucking sucked. didn't switch to low beam until the other car was too close. folks flashed their high beams at her all the time.

Nice, nice. You need some of the body-color matched hubcaps though to complete the look...(and the ones on there look too much like the ones Ford used on Fairmonts/base Mustangs in the late 70's and early 80's)

Or you could go with some wires.

^^ Oh Don had a lot more than a dozen cars. Try 40 or so- that entire building was full of cars, as was the adjacent parking lot. The collection was boiled down to 16 cars and this is the last one of them all. Several years ago I used to go down there after I got of work and work on the better ones, getting them running or just keeping them running.

[Edited on April 14, 2008 at 5:04 PM. Reason : They werent really a collection anyhow, there is a long story to it...]
