Let's rundown the last month in NCAA basketball, just a quick recap...1) A foul shouldn't have been called against Stanford player late against Collison in PAC-10 play2) Foul should have been called during UCLA/Texas A&M on last second play.3) Technical foul not called against Memphis with 10 seconds left (CDR slams ball). Announcers congratulate officials for not calling the foul, "He was mad at himself".4) Calipari called out officials during tourney, quote "UCLA will win if they keep getting the calls".Foul not called on Memphis behind the line with 4 seconds left in regulation. DOH! John, if they would have called the foul, you'd be climbing down from a ladder right now.Can someone please explain when a foul is a foul and when a foul is not a foul? I have lost all understanding as of tonight....[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 11:59 PM. Reason : Please feel free to add your own numbers/insight]

Can you please define "ticky-tack"? Was the no-call Memphis foul at the end of regulation ticky-tack?I cannot remember a team losing a Championship game because a foul they committed was not called. I can imagine Calipari coming out tomorrow lamenting officials for not calling a foul on his own damn team.[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 12:04 AM. Reason : d]

there were quite a few fouls that should have been called tonight but weren't. guys were getting absolutely raped on both sides.
4/8/2008 12:02:53 AM
I'd rather see a bunch of missed calls all around than a bunch of phantom whistles...which is what dominates ACC play. Its a lot easier to keep the game fair if you let the small contact go. Overall, I have thought the post season has gone pretty well in that respect
4/8/2008 12:03:01 AM
there is no way u can call that technical, an official does not want to take the game into his own hands in the National Champ Game
4/8/2008 12:03:44 AM
when you slam the ball like that you are telling the officials "I want a technical"he may as well have punched someone in the face
4/8/2008 12:03:47 AM
i don't like officiating in general in bball these daysoffensive players initiate contact & get the call all the time & refs are always calling fouls cause they anticipate there will be one (usually on a fast break)
4/8/2008 12:04:02 AM
if a foul had been called on CDR at the end for slamming the ball, i would have gone livid. No way you call a tech there at that point of the national title game for something like that. The refs did the right thing there
4/8/2008 12:05:33 AM
We should be bitching about how Hightower is worse about doing the "DRAMATIC EMPHASIS ON THE CALL" than Ted Valentine every time he makes the call. What a faggot.
4/8/2008 12:05:50 AM
How about the reach-in with 4 seconds left? Ticky-tack? It cost Memphis the fucking game! At worst, they'd have the ball back, up 1, 3 seconds left....
4/8/2008 12:06:58 AM
My point is, when do you call a fucking foul? By definition, #1-4 I posted were.....1)Foul2)Foul3)Foul4)FoulI'm not really a by-the-book fan, but a little damn clarification is needed...
4/8/2008 12:10:02 AM
if kansas would have bounched the ball that high after the foul was called on them, then i would hope that would have been a technical
4/8/2008 12:10:46 AM
it cant just be cause some refs suck?simplest explanation...
4/8/2008 12:11:19 AM
ok you missed about a thousand involving Hansbrough, but couldn't pick up the fouls when he needed them most
4/8/2008 12:12:18 AM
^^^the foul was called on kansas. Memphis was going to the line to shoot FT's right after he bounced the ball. And if you watch, after he bounces it, a kansas player gets it and throws it against the goal pad[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 12:13 AM. Reason : ^^^]
4/8/2008 12:12:40 AM
So what you're saying is Memphis shot a 1 and 1 while Kansas should have had two FT's and possession. By the book, of course.
4/8/2008 12:19:40 AM
^^i know...i'm saying if kansas has pounded the ball like the memphis guy did then the refs would have viewed that as kansas being pissed about the foul being called, prompting the refs to call a technicalsince memphis pounded the ball into the floor, the refs didn't view it as memphis being offended by the officiating and thus didn't give a technical
4/8/2008 12:23:08 AM
The announcers made the assertion at least 3 times that he was "mad at himself". Meaning for 2009, you can sucker-punch someone if you miss a 2 FT's, as long as you weren't mad at the player you punched, right?
4/8/2008 12:26:19 AM
^did he sucker-punch anyone?did he foul anyone?did he touch anyone?
4/8/2008 12:30:19 AM
It deserved a technical. I'm just glad Kansas won without it.
4/8/2008 12:40:15 AM
^^CAN YOU PLEASE ANSWER MY FIRST FUCKING QUESTION? WHEN IS A FOUL NOT A FOUL?WHY THE FUCK WAS IT NOT CALLED?If not, then kindly stfu...
4/8/2008 12:43:58 AM
It was something that had no impact on anyone so there not going to call something which can effectively decide the outcome of the game.[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 12:54 AM. Reason : .]
4/8/2008 12:53:20 AM
4/8/2008 12:56:54 AM
If you really believe a ref should have ruined what was a great game by calling a technical in that situation, you need to stop watching basketball.
4/8/2008 1:07:31 AM
While you'd hate to see a game swing with a technical on that play, CDR was a dumbass for committing a clear technical. To be fair, Dorsey should have been called for his countless delay of games as well, batting the ball away or holding it and pointing after Memphis scores.[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 1:11 AM. Reason : .]
4/8/2008 1:10:07 AM
^^I could care less about that. I care about when a foul isn't considered a foul. Look at my first post-there are four calls listed. I still haven't heard a clear-cut answer...
4/8/2008 1:19:59 AM
I think everyone should be forced to referee at least 1 basketball game in their life. Maybe then everyone would stop bitching about how bad the referees are. It's probably one of the hardest jobs to do in the world.
4/8/2008 2:11:32 AM
I think that referees should have to call different conferences during the year. The ACC obviously had a LOT more whistles than the tournament did, and that hurt the teams from the ACC. I, personally, know that Hansbrough jumping into a person and making a layup isn't a defensive foul, but apparently he's accustomed to it, so he tries it later and doesn't get the calls. Also, he takes 3 steps and *HOLYSHIT* it's a travel? no way, not in the ACC...anyways, I think the difference in officiating hurt the ACC a lot this year in the tournament overall.. There should be some way to regulate it better.

^^Thank you.....I have done little league through Campus Rec through jayvee and working towards varsity. Do not bitch because you probably couldn't do better. Those guys tonight were chosen because they are the best of the best. The game was called fairly.
