Yep. Still looking to get out of this godforsaken place I work now. And back to Raleigh/Durham/RTP.Mechanical engineer with some good work experience in the last 17 months...just not work experience that will do me a damn bit of good over the long haul in my career. And I need to get somewhere where that will happen.I work for a HEPA filtration systems manufacturer, and it's just sad how much of a duct-tape operation this place is...and just how much lost revenue slips through their fingers. It's not a rocket science kind of place, but the production facilities could sure use a good dose of Lean. Our engineering staff could sure use a good dose of Six Sigma. And it would be nice to actually do some real solid modeling instead of doing everything in 2D CAD.But alas, I shall not bitch further. It's obvious that I'd like to work in a manufacturing environment in which modern methods and ideologies were incorporated. You have leads? I'd like to know. I'm working on finding a new job Blitzkrieg style.BTW...evidently my last thread was lost in the Great Server Bed-Shit of last week.

I see a lot of manufacturing-engineering type jobs on craigslist....but if you're looking that hard for a job, I'm sure you've already looked therehttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/egr/629014433.html[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 8:04 AM. Reason : link]

friend o mine models things in 3D for Belcan, who design (not sure about manufacture) cranes.sounds like they're hiring up because of increased workload and not planning on coming down.Belcan.and that's all I got!
4/8/2008 8:44:38 AM
we could probably use you with all the damn problems we have with our HVAC systembut can't afford it right now. if something comes up i'll let you know.
4/8/2008 8:52:43 AM
2D CAD is fine for what you would have been doing with HEPA stuff, 3D is overrated unless you are doing something you REALLY need it in (engine parts, cars, planes, etc). Otherwise 3D drawings end up just being used for 2D extraction.I said it in the other thread, but with HEPA filtration as a background you might be able to get a job with an Air Handling Unit company. After working with filtration, you would bring a lot of knowledge to a job at an AHU vendor since they use filtration in their units, and at the same time you would be learning a new set of skills.

4/8/2008 12:44:49 PM
lol, nah soils consulting ahaha
4/8/2008 12:51:22 PM
I'd even consider any kind of environmental engineering, but my education and skill set is pretty limited in that arena.^My guess is that dad hasn't gotten in touch with you (or anybody for that matter) because things are pretty touch and go right now. Tight, man, tight. And I don't mean like Iredell.
4/8/2008 1:24:09 PM
yea he got back to me, but I can't leave my job now for part-time type work...good luck w/ the job hunt!

If only I had more of a civil background.I know a good deal about surveying and mapping. Don't know shit about civil. Except maybe a bit of structural, which isn't my strong suit.
4/8/2008 4:31:35 PM
what are you looking for? I'll ask the wife if they have any openings where she is... most of the stuff there is EE though. But I'll see.

^^ I'm grossly underqualified. I have HEPA experience, but I have almost no HVAC experience.^all IT stuff. Nothing there for me. No, I didn't go.Mechanical engineering. Just about anything decent. I really wouldn't mind being in design, but I'd go for manufacturing.Hell, I'd like to work for a PE doing wastewater projects or the like.[Edited on April 10, 2008 at 6:45 PM. Reason : blahblah]

4/18/2008 9:18:38 PM
Actually...it wouldn't matter because I don't have enough experience. This is what blows about trying to find the second step career-wise after only being with your first company 18 months. Not enough experience. And it seems that EVERYBODY wants more experience.I guess them's the breaks. I've had plenty of calls from recruiters, but my guess is that they are padding their supply of resumes for potential contracts right now. Not a good time to be looking for a jerb.
4/24/2008 4:51:33 PM
idk, i uploaded a profile onto monster.com on Tuesday afternoon and have had several recruiters call me about specific positions in the past 2 days without me applying for anything on monster.but I think I'm gonna take a position that I was offered yesterday.
4/24/2008 5:49:24 PM
Well, a couple of interviews, lots of calls from recruiters, no offers as of yet.Anybody else work in a good job where they may be hiring? The market definitely sucks right now.
4/30/2008 9:06:03 PM
Back for the attack...Heads up on any engineering jobs around here? I just need to get my foot in the door. Even entry level...
5/29/2008 10:53:09 PM
http://www.kookscustomheaders.com/Is coming to Iredell sometime this year, creating 55 positions. I dont know anything more than that the new location is off of US70 right out of statesville (toward salisbury)also, if you are interested/very knowledgeable about fluid (read: water) systems and filtration, send your resume to http://r3water.com/ and tell them Joey recommended you. The systems are modeled in SolidWorks, and R3 is also in need of an Engineer... PM me if you are interested[Edited on May 29, 2008 at 11:43 PM. 5/30/2008 10:07:10 AM
Oh yes. I have my EI certificate.
5/30/2008 11:59:04 AM
are you still out there in good ole Bath NC
5/30/2008 12:18:37 PM
Yep. Actually working at our Washington plant now. A lil better (doing gloveboxes and isolators for pharmaceutical industry and nuclear fuels industry), but FAR from where I want to be.
5/30/2008 1:31:49 PM
Back to the top...is it just me, or have job postings dropped pretty sharply in the last couple of months?
6/4/2008 3:10:15 PM
have you considered the construction industry?
6/4/2008 3:15:39 PM
I'll consider any industry as long as I'm qualified, the work is somewhat interesting (read: NOT a manual laborer), and the pay is good.I need 50k or better.
6/4/2008 3:17:23 PM
job listings have dropped because companies are tightening up and firing instead of hiring nowadays
6/4/2008 3:19:43 PM
^you dont say?hey dan, hows the lazer cutting coming along?
6/4/2008 3:26:38 PM
I haven't really done much with it. I've cut a few pieces here and there, but I've been so busy with so much other stuff. If I get any orders in, I'll do 'em though.Interview tomorrow, and a phone interview Thursday. I hope something pans out here.
6/10/2008 11:42:38 PM
i cant believe an ME with an EIT and 1 1/2 years experience, currently working, cant just blast out 20 or 30 job applications over a week or so then sit back and pick and choose.shit dude, theres plenty of places hiring, just get off your ass and fire out some resumes/applications to the type of places you want. fuck whether or not you THINK you're perfectly qualified. you're still junior level, they expect a learning curve no matter what it is.look, i have two main industry focuses that i could work in. i have a resume and general coverletter prepared for each of the two, emphasising the particular focus. depending on the job applied for, i tweak the appropriate coverletter just enough to give it a personal feel, and send it out with the appropriate resume. i can easily get 20 or 30 resumes/applications out in a 5 day week. the trick is, to not fuck with those multi-page forms that make you fill out a hundred different fields and dropdowns... unless it absolutely is the job you want. go instead to company websites and hunt out email addresses, even if its generic addresses for HR or whatever.
6/11/2008 12:01:36 AM
I hope so, too. Miss seeing ya Good luck tomorrow.
6/11/2008 12:02:08 AM
how'd it go?
6/11/2008 5:46:28 PM
I think it went pretty well. My fingers are crossed.^^^I've blasted out at least 3x that many and exhausted most of my contacts. Including friends of friends and bare acquaintances and folks I've never personally met.
6/11/2008 7:13:35 PM
If you don't mind moving to TN, my company is looking for a marine transmission engineer. You won't do any design really, but you take current products and incorporate them into OEM pleasure boats
