that he was REALLY close to going to NC State... REALLY CLOSE...His staff voted to go. He said his vote counted more than any other.STFU

im confusedpeople hate him for not comingthen they hate him for how he runs a program
4/7/2008 6:56:30 PM
^ ding ding
4/7/2008 6:56:50 PM
I never said that. I want a sleezebag to run the program. Sleezebags win.See: Memphis
4/7/2008 6:57:12 PM
^^^ I think most people who were angry with him felt that way because they thought that we had been used to get him a raise at Memphis and that they never had any intention of coming. This was not the case.If I got to watch a team like Memphis play for us every year I wouldn't care if the coach was the biggest douche in the country, I would be incredibly happy.
4/7/2008 7:07:33 PM
but to be fair its Memphis, big time bball tradition. You cant expect that at State
4/7/2008 7:08:49 PM
two things. first thing, i'd welcome a sleezeball. we're a state school, no one is impressed by players who graduate at a state school. i'd rather win.second thing, i don't understand why calipari keeps telling people that he almost came here. you would think that would rub memphis the wrong way, even if it doesn't matter how he rubs memphis since he's the best they will have for quite some time.]

huh?
4/7/2008 7:13:01 PM
So what exactly makes him such a sleaze? I'm not disagreeing, I'm genuinely curious
4/7/2008 7:19:08 PM
^^ Yeah. That's the lamest trolling attempt I've ever seen. Unless that's your attempt at being sarcastic. In which case it's pretty weak too.
4/7/2008 7:20:25 PM

And his smarmy demeanor. We get it. Your team is good. They made the finals and will probably win. You can quit talking them up in the media. Just change your name to Carolina and they'll do it for you.
4/7/2008 7:22:15 PM
and his woe is me attitude, the whoooooole world against Memphis
4/7/2008 7:23:17 PM

I think I remember something about that, but I mean, there is either beating a rape charge or getting stuck with it right? Unless they were like, "well you raped her, but at least you took her to breakfast the next morning so we'll let it slide this time."

4/7/2008 7:28:16 PM
im pulling for memphis tonightso UNC would be the true losers of the final four
4/7/2008 7:28:18 PM
^^^^ yeah, but beating a rape charge isn't always cut and dry. I mean the victim might have decided she had already endured too much pain and decided to drop the charges instead of having to testify against the guy.[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 7:29 PM. Reason : adsf]

He was scared off by the academic standards that would shackle him at NCSU. He couldn't get most of his current team in here.
4/7/2008 7:39:34 PM
State is just as much of a football school now as a bball... Memphis only has bball
4/7/2008 7:39:40 PM
State won 2 national titles since the last time Memphis was in the finals. Memphis and Tennessee combined do not have the basketball tradition that NC State has.
4/7/2008 7:41:29 PM
hahahah, well yeah, but they dont have the benefit of playing in the ACC, obviously I meant if you took all things equal...
4/7/2008 7:42:48 PM
^ I would hardly describe a basketball program with no national championships as having more "basketball tradition" than NC State. Are they a bigger name in college basketball today? Sure, but that's only as long as Calipari sticks around.[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 7:44 PM. Reason : yeah, whatever]

4/7/2008 7:45:21 PM
well, maybe tradition was the wrong word... memphis relies on bball more that State. Bball is all that is in memphis sports wise^ hahahaha, shhhhhmemphis is straight up ghetto man, bball is the lifeblood of the city, its a fun pastime in raleigh between football seasons [Edited on April 7, 2008 at 7:46 PM. 4/7/2008 7:45:34 PM
Oh, my God. Did Jaybee1200 just admit he might have been in the wrong? Surely this can't be.
4/7/2008 7:46:45 PM
I always admit when I am wrong, its just so rare that most people dont remember it.and not so much wrong as "off"is golf big in augusta? sure, but its more important to the golfers in Basra and Beirut [Edited on April 7, 2008 at 7:48 PM. Reason : d]

Women's basketball is the lifeblood of Knoxville, men's hoops is just a diversion between games.

I never hated the guy and I always hoped we would bag him. I would like to think that if we had a competent AD, he might be here right now.People like to rationalize not getting him (he was playing us for a raise, he is dirty, he was scared of the competition) to make themselves feel better, and all of that exists wholly in the fantasy world of internet rumors. With that said, I don't think Calipari's statements to the media should be taken for much.[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 8:04 PM. Guy Lewis said in an interview with Dick Schaap before the 2001 National Championship game, that they meant to get Drexler out after his third foul, but they couldn't make it to the next stoppage in play. If you notice in that game they had a sub at the table waiting to come in for him. Generally you take a player out after 2 fouls in the first half, but Drexler was so good that many coaches would play him with 2 fouls, especially if it was in the National Championship game. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for us, that gamble didn't work for Houston. I've got to say that the 4th foul, a charging call, really was questionable. Drexler got a fast break opportunity with Terry Gannon being the only defender down the floor. Gannon tried to take a charge, but actually grabbed Drexler to take him down the floor with him. Drexler still maintains that Gannon tackled him. I'm not sure if Gannon was meaning to take him down or was just making sure he didn't fall too hard on him. Definitely a questionable one. Even if Drexler should have gotten the foul for a charge, the basket should have counted since contact was after the shot.

maybe he keeps saying how close he was to taking the job, b/c he still wants this job.maybe if john calipari wins his national title at memphis he will feel like he's reached the top and will be ready for a new challenge and stop being a pussbag and step up to face the acc and take over when sid's forced out.
