I forgot I had this SIP phone and could really use the phone line atm (sprintpcs phone is fucked) I remember using it on our own Asterisk server for a while and then we had Vonage at one point. Basically I'm wonder exactly what do I need to do before I can make and receive calls?I'm about to google, but TWW search is fucked atm so I dunno if there's a thread or not already. It seems like I might could just find someone's voip server and use it? Maybe not.---UPDATE:just by reading four or five lines I already notice this thread is full of [fail]can I just use skype, lolz?[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 2:30 PM. signed up with some company callwithus.com shit seems to be working ok. would there be any benefit to setting up a PBX with this or just keeping the phone like it is?

i'm assuming that's a SIP phoneto use it, you need to use a SIP server.asterisk is a SIP server. to use it with PSTN stuff, you'd need to get a FXO card or sign up with a carrier to trunk it over SIP.if you don't want all the fancy PBX features and are going to trunk SIP through a provider anyway, just sign up for service through a SIP provider and use the SIP trunk details on your phone to directly connect.some i've used:http://quantumvoice.com/http://www.telasip.com/lemme know if you need any more help - i've got way too much experience with asterisk/VoIP

Another thing you can do is setup Asterisk to connect to your SIP provider. Then you can attach the SIP phone to asterisk and if you have an FXS card you can connect then connect it into your house lines as well. Essentially turning asterisk into an ATA.Although if you want a pro as fuck ATA that will work with any SIP server, then you want a Sipura SPA-2100.
