Confirmed: Larry Davis transferring
Sophomore guard Larry Davis has put in the paperwork to transfer out of Seton Hall.

After a promising freshman campaign, Davis never seemed to find a comfortable role this winter. He averaged 5.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21 minutes per game but shot just 31.8 percent from the field.

A standout at Christ the King in New York City, Davis originally committed to N.C. State but changed his mind when coach Herb Sendek left. As a freshman at the Hall he averaged 7.5 points and shot 40 percent from 3-point range, but for some reason his development took a detour.

Hoops Haven says: Larry's departure thins out a roster that already was dangerously shallow. Right now only nine scholarship players are on board for next season, four of which are guards. If the Pirates want to run and press they need reinforcements. The upcoming spring signing period will be critical.

Another reason to lament the loss: Davis is well-liked by his teammates and has been doing well academically.

"Davis to transfer from Seton Hall

BY COLIN STEPHENSON
Star-Ledger Staff
Seton Hall's Larry Davis is transferring after all. The school will announce tomorrow that Davis, the 6-3 sophomore guard, has decided to leave. However, he may stay in New Jersey, as one of the schools he is said to be considering is Rider. The Queens native is also looking at Hofstra, Loyola of Maryland, and Iona. LOL, sure is a big step down from the ACC and the Big Least

Davis, part of Bobby Gonzalez's first recruiting class in 2006, averaged 21 minutes and 7.5 minutes per game as a freshman, but his scoring fell off this past season, when he averaged 5.8 points per game in 21.3 minutes per game.

Lee Fowler and his AAU coach really screwed over his career. Also, Bobby Gonzalez is shady.

Fowler didn't keep in contact with Davis, Werner, or Horner during the coaching search. In the meantime, he was supposedly in charge of the basketball program. It's easy to see why Davis went elsewhere when the program he signed with wouldn't return calls for 2 months. It likely would have been a better situation for him in Raleigh.

"I was disappointed - not necessarily - heartbroken when Davis reneged from his commitment to State. But, I was not so indifferent to some of the ancillary issues related to the situation. For example, at the time I didn’t necessarily like the way that State acquiesced to Davis’ request to back out of his committment. I explained my position using some business analogies in this relevant entry.

I wish that I would have known more about the situation at the time as I would have been more sympathetic to Davis and less supportive on NC State.

Since the situation unfolded in April/May, SFN has learned that NC State had extremely limited contact with Larry Davis during the Pack’s search - oops…sorry…I mean “Lee Fowler’s search” - for a basketball coach. In fact, SFN got it on extremely good authority that Lee Fowler called Larry Davis all but ONE TIME during the month long search. Of course Davis was going to listen to other options when Bobby Gonzalez is in his ear every day (actually his AAU coach who ultimately took a job with Gonzalez) and Fowler has zero transition plan in place.

"

Even if you don't believe Fowler failed to keep in contact, you have to admit the haphazard manner in which the coaching search had some effect.

haha the Loyola fans are shitting their pants calling getting davis "historic" for their program

lol there is even some drama in that thread

one guy calls out a current guard saying davis will be an improvement over him, and the guy's dad is apparently on that forum and gets pissed
