no pay in healthcare is commensurate with the level of workits not why you do itunless you are a doctor, and some of them are quite overpaid for what they actually DO but they did spend a lot of money/time to get where they are

salaries vary widely based on where you workrural medics are obviously going to make less than urban medicsthe medics in wilmington make more, comparatively speaking, because the service is owned by NHRMC, not the city/county. likewise, the CCU medics that work for wakemed make more than wake county medics.35k is typical for a medic that works in wake county.
