tech talk?
4/4/2008 5:22:03 PM
well, getting it back required server work. so yes, its tech.
4/4/2008 5:25:02 PM
was this a restore from 4/1?[Edited on April 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM. Reason : oh....good job.]

Wow. Backup much?So wait, no, seriously. You mean to tell me this server is not on a raid array or or has a redundant twin? An epic fail if I've ever seen one.[Edited on April 4, 2008 at 5:39 PM. Reason : .]

yea, seriously, lost 3 days of data... down for ~8 hours? (i wasn't counting)at least he didn't restore triangleweb[Edited on April 4, 2008 at 5:43 PM. Reason : .]

^first thing I thought of after I figured out it was a restore
4/4/2008 6:10:30 PM
what can cause a server to have to be reset?
4/4/2008 6:12:53 PM
No, this was not a reset ... this was a data loss and backup restoration.Basically, they are retards and either A) did not have a cloned (or a live backup) server on standby, or B) were not using a hardware disk-drive array for active data. Both of these methods (combined especially) will prevent ANY data loss from occurring in a server environment.Unless of course you have a complete meltdown of the building. And to combat that, you maintain a live backup/clone off-site.
4/4/2008 6:18:19 PM
so what causes something to have a data loss and restore?
4/4/2008 6:19:42 PM
hardware failure.Referral Link:http://www.lunarpages.com/id/syprus3More Information:http://www.lpdedicated.com/make the switch Tdub.there's absolutely no reason why a forum that has over 700+ users online at one time does not have any redundancy built-in, much less daily backups[Edited on April 4, 2008 at 6:37 PM. 4/4/2008 6:34:36 PM

You guys are acting like this is mission critical information. It's Chit Chat, come on.
4/4/2008 6:57:28 PM
^Tdub is NOT their only customer. But I imagine it is one of their bigger ones.
4/4/2008 7:12:27 PM
mission critical or not.... no customer whether they pay $5/mo. or $200/mo. should have to be down for 8 hours and not have daily backups
4/4/2008 7:23:55 PM
i missed you guys
4/4/2008 7:24:26 PM
this is exactly why i dont pay this site JACK SHITand have ad-block installedand always circumvent the automatic image resizingand externally hotlink images from my gallery

^Yea, management /message_topic.aspx?topic=517733&page=3#11463000 is saying that it's the new OS causing problems this time ... um, WHAT?I am a fan of the incompetence by all involved. This whole episode is deserving of a place in "tales of the technically inept" /message_topic.aspx?topic=376822Someone make a pithy post.[Edited on April 5, 2008 at 1:13 AM.
