What is the best band to have put out a debut record since 1998?
3/31/2008 5:42:46 PM
obligatory Led Zeppelin.
3/31/2008 5:45:08 PM
Arcade Fire?
3/31/2008 5:46:29 PM
personally...It's between Muse, My Chemical Romance, and Say Anything
3/31/2008 5:46:34 PM
some obscure band most people haven't heard of
3/31/2008 5:46:38 PM
my real responses, wintersun, queens of the stone age (1997 demo?)
3/31/2008 5:51:39 PM
arcade fire(solely based on the debut record aspect)
3/31/2008 5:53:30 PM
white stripes?
3/31/2008 5:56:11 PM
Daft Punk's debut record (we're going by LPs) dropped in 97 btw
3/31/2008 5:56:40 PM
White Stripes & Arcade Fire are the two best options
3/31/2008 6:05:22 PM
Are we talking which band had the best debut album in the past 10 years? Or which band has become the best since their debut 10 years ago or sooner?Changes the answer greatly.
3/31/2008 6:17:37 PM
Yeah, the title and the first post don't match up very well.Either way, the first Shins album totally changed my life.
3/31/2008 6:21:07 PM
What is the best band to debut in 1998 or later with an LP
3/31/2008 6:22:34 PM
its the white stripes if their debut was in the last 10 years.Other than that, i dunno.
3/31/2008 6:23:56 PM
who is arcade fire. Every time i see their name my mind skips over it because it looks emo.
3/31/2008 6:25:04 PM
Oh, probably White Stripes then
3/31/2008 6:25:14 PM
arcade fire emo? jesus man know what emo is before you try to compare things to it.P.S. its not fall out boy
3/31/2008 6:27:52 PM
Damn you love emo music
3/31/2008 6:29:02 PM
He wasn't comparing Arcade Fire to an emo band, it's obvious he's never listened to them.Jesus man, learn to read.
3/31/2008 6:29:13 PM
yea i think there was some terrible band with the words arcade and/or fire in it so when i see those words in the context of music i think terrible emo. Maybe i'll go find some later.
3/31/2008 6:31:12 PM
plus 44
3/31/2008 6:56:54 PM
Cant narrow the list down anymore than this due to the span of styles making it nearly impossible to compare band to band:The Mars VoltaBetween the Buried and MemewithoutYouMuseDeath Cab for CutieDillinger Escape PlanHopesfallMogwai and Sigur Ros just barely miss the cut with a 4th quarter '97 first LP.
3/31/2008 8:20:28 PM
i would knock hopesfall off that listpersonally i am partial to:between the buried and mehe is legendmewithoutyou
3/31/2008 8:22:45 PM
yea. they were the last ones i added, and only because i have such a bias to their first few albums :pbut as far as being as innovative and stuff i agree that they really dont fit in with the other bands on the list.[Edited on March 31, 2008 at 8:25 PM. Reason : ]

^^^ as far as i understood it wasnt officially released as an LP until 2002. It was a casette basically put out by the band and a very small label in 1998. Wikipedia is incorrect in stating 1997, even though they started selling it at shows in 1997 before its official release. If you look at the release date on the physical copy of the album and also on the label's site who released it they both say 1998. I had to double check myself before I posted it in my list heh.then again its kind of up in the air as ive now seen the date as sep 97, oct 97, december 97 on music stores online but my copy says 1998 and the label's site says 98.I also see where it says it was written and recorded before death cab for cutie was a band. interesting. I did not know that. So I dono I give them the benefit of the doubt [Edited on March 31, 2008 at 8:47 PM. Reason : ]
