i think it comes when my laptop power charger disconnects... but it never used to do it.

did a short google search, anyone know offhand about a problem with this? its kind of annoying

the display brightness is set to go to half bright when power is cut, and thats what seems to trigger it

its about a 1"x1" square that shows for about 30 seconds when the power charger is disconnected. then it goes away. wouldnt a dead pixel show all the time?

im gonna read about it

ok no way, are you talking about a single pixel? i'm gonna screenshot and draw in the white spot. haha

its a whole gang of pixels, i think its gotta be something related to a setting

maybe when you change the brightness, a panel comes up to show you what you are changing it to, and that program that shows the panel crashes and leaves a white square there, but that's just my theory

i got a viewer that will give info on false visible forms, and i've tried to treat it like a window of some sort. no luck so far, but i'm thinking its some program as well. maybe the graphic properties tray task or something

try pulling the plug during bootup and see if it happens.

otherwise, reformat, see if its there still. If so, you got yourself either a pin problem on the LVDS connector, or a fucked screen

When my LCD switches modes, it displays info about the mode in the upper left like that for a few seconds, then goes away. Maybe your screen is trying to do that, and failing?

are the pixels in that area of the screen dimmer when power is connected? You have a black background, try it with a white one for a bit and see.

your computer isn't from gateway is it? a few ppl at work have some from there and as somebody said earlier, when you adjust the brightness the little blue box that shows in the top left corner never goes back to the colors it's suppose to.. dunno why

yes it is a gateway (MT6705). heard of any fixes?

noen, if you're asking if it only happens when windows is going, i think so. it doesnt seem to do that before the vista loadup screen starts.

i still don't know exactly what's causing this. i'm going to buy a new cord, and that will stop the disconnections, which will stop the square. but still, just a workaround.

try getting some random live linux disc burned and boot that, then mess with the screen settings and see if it shows, that way you can know if its some renegade program or a dying lcd
