most "black" people aren't black (except wesley snipes), and most "african" americans aren't african
so what name should i use to distinguish myself from the darkies?

those work fine for me, when a distinction needs to be made.

asian works too, i guess, although that's somewhat of a misnomer (or rather, it is needlessly broad--oriental is more specific if that's what you mean, although that's taken on an offensive connotation in this country for some odd reason).
