drilling should be fine, but for cutting i believe they make special blades. dont know. i was gonna cut some CF once and was told not to use your everyday blades. who knows..

i drilled a ton of holes in a CF lip for my car with no problems. And it's already been said - just make sure you don't tighten down on it too hard or it'll start cracking. I used speed nuts to distribute the weight a bit better and to fasten the lip to the bumper better when i put the screws through the drilled holes.

I'm thinking of swapping out the ~30lb dash in the 944 out with a carbon fiber one (lighter, simpler). I would still like to maintain the defrost vents for the windshield though and look like an OEM dash (just in carbon fiber) (small vents in the dash can be seen here in an oem dash here: http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n167/World_Militaria/Porsche%20944%20Photos/?action=view¤t=d892_121.jpg )

Will there be issues with durability/lifetime wear and tear if you cut carbon fiber? (splitting, cracking , splintering over time around the cuts?)

Is there a local Raleigh shop that works with carbon fiber professionally I can call?

Ahh fuck it. I read several articles online and for the amount of work I want to cut, I'd rather have a professional shop do it than I try and do it wrong or worse. With that said, anyone know a good shop that will work with carbon fiber? (Hell, I assume any machine shop should be able to do the "basic" cuts I'm looking for right?)

I can drill those holes for ya at work tomorrow if you drop it tonight. When drilling the truck holes in boards I use a piece of wood to back up the underside and run the drill press on a faster setting, feeding slowly for minimal splintering. Then I debur with a hole debur tool and a rolled cone of sandpaper.

The screws won't be crushing the tube will they? I assume the heads will be on the inside, with something mounted to the outside? How thick is the tube wall?

Shmorri, I can look at doing it if you want. As long as you smooth out the cut edges and don't beat the fuck out if it with a coarse saw blade the edges should be nice, and as long as you aren't making a weak spot in the structure by removing material the durability will be fine.

^I appreciate the offer. There's much more that will need to be done as well as those vents, and overall, it's not going to be worth the time and money. If I change my mind (which I might), I'll hollar at ya.
