What building/buildings would you recommend me to apply for? I'll be a freshman this fall, and I want to decide soon so I can send in my housing application early...any help would be appreciated

there might already be something about this in another board, but I couldnt find it : P

I lived in bagwell freshman year which is part of the quad. Back then it wasn't air conditioned, but it did have the biggest rooms on campus. Now that they have renovated the quad I think it has air now, so that would be a good choice. Also, Bragaw was good, not too far from north campus and it is close to fountain dining hall and the gym. So I believe either would be good choices if that is what you are looking for.
3/25/2008 12:46:23 PM
someone told me that the whole quad was only honors dorms, have I been misinformed?
3/25/2008 12:49:02 PM
it may be now... I'm not sure
3/25/2008 12:55:18 PM

Carroll rocks. right beside the tunnel, in the middle of everything. decent size rooms. of course you get to pay the premie price for it but i thought it was worth it.i used to wake up 5 minutes before a math class i had and make it to harrelson on time and
3/25/2008 2:45:26 PM
Becton Basement is the shiznit yo. Been in this same room 3 years Finally moving out to Kensington Apartments.
3/25/2008 2:45:56 PM
North Hall babyi used to have parties with 50-60 people showing upsmoke / drink all you want but this was back in the day
3/25/2008 2:50:21 PM
^^^^ yeah, i heard that tritowers were small, and that suite style dorms suck^^^ what do you mean by having to pay a premie? is it part of UT or something?<<<(NCSU n00b)[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 2:51 PM. Reason : durp]
3/25/2008 2:51:25 PM
how large are the rooms in north? it would be nice 'cause they have their own bathrooms....
3/25/2008 2:56:53 PM
i mean, considering that they have their own bathrooms. with the bathroom it says it is about 24 by 12 feet, dows the bathroom take much away?[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 2:59 PM. Reason : ]

I stayed in Syme for all four years. I enjoyed it b/c the rooms were big, and it was close to my COM classes. They finally put A/C in there about a couple of years ago, but they are still big in comparison to some of the other halls. Plus, I got to eat at Clark instead of Fountain.I guess the best advice is to get an idea on 1) how far your classes will be as far as your major is concerned, 2) how much you want to pay, and 3) how much stuff you are going to bring. Other than that, keep asking. It won't hurt.
3/25/2008 3:00:27 PM
i'm in textiles (for the time being)but i'm getting a nice bicycle and I plan on getting around that way. and I already have my roommate so we can be pretty efficient about not bringing too much random shit.
3/25/2008 3:03:37 PM
i thought that only one building in the quad was honors dorms. i know they weren't all honors dorms two years ago.syme is the best looking part of campus, if that appeals to you, plus you get to eat at clark. i can't speak about the room size or anything.i lived in metcalf for two years which i liked just fine, and it was ridiculous how close to classes it was.
3/25/2008 3:10:40 PM
yeah, i think bagwell is the only honors dorma couple friends of mine were in berry and i would be shocked if they were in the honors program im lookin at becton, and so far I like what I seei just have to choose three, but I might not even get my first three picks hahaha[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 3:17 PM. 3/25/2008 3:12:49 PM
you can eat in clark if you live in turlington on central campus too.
3/25/2008 3:19:04 PM
Lee's great if you dont mind the walk/ride to class.
3/25/2008 3:19:59 PM
maybe I should change the course of this thread to "which residence halls to avoid like the plague" because it seems that most dorms are nice.so which dorms are super shitty and worth avoiding?
3/25/2008 3:22:05 PM
Our dorms suck, get an apartment from the get go. Apartments are cheaper too. I think jtbucky was being sarcastic when he said Wood. I lived there freshmen year and it resulted in my immediate evacuation to an apartment the next year. My nutjob roomie probably contributed to that but it also is just too damned far away from everything.I will say that I've spent nights in both Owen and Sullivan, they're both decent as far as NC State dorms go.
3/25/2008 3:55:52 PM
I hated Wood, but I do know a few guys who loved it. But if you want to be close to things, don't do it. Tons of house centipedes there too.
3/25/2008 3:58:07 PM
3/25/2008 3:58:14 PM
id suggest bowen or metcalf as they've got the best locations, or that other one , turlington maybe? ugh, haven't lived on campus in forever, but they're all essentially the same sans ut & the ones w/o ac

^I will tell you now, dorm life was either awesome, or it sucked balls. Just depends who you're roommates or suitemates are. Personally I thought it was some of the best years of college[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 5:04 PM. Reason : V I too was a tri-tower vet, Bowen wit da crazy elevators]
3/25/2008 4:40:42 PM
Tucker and Owen or the tri-towers if you're more concerned about being meeting new people and being around the action.Lee and Sullivan are pretty boring and are where all the honors and scholars students are (not to mention they are kind of separated from the other dorms). Same goes with Wood as far as being secluded from everything else. That's about all I got. If I had to do it all over again, I would have tried to do Tucker/Owen or the tri-towers.
3/25/2008 5:01:54 PM
i always thought living in watauga would have been cool
3/25/2008 5:58:56 PM
i lived in wood hall fall 95 - spring 96it's probably way different nowthe distance isn't as far as it seems...i took design and english classes and it was probably closer to those buildings than say, lee, sullivan or bragaw...i think it just seems far cause you've got the paul DURR track in the middle of the jointkinda far from a dining hall (unless you eat at case,) but it's close to the gym, talley and mission valleyif you're going to centennial campus (i.e. textiles or some engineering), you're gonna end up taking the bus anyways[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 6:07 PM. Reason : +]
3/25/2008 6:06:36 PM
oh yeah, if you live on central campus you can eat lunch at case, which is awesome.
3/25/2008 6:36:51 PM
this is a trick question, right? best.... but if i had to name a "best," lee or sullivan...[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 8:03 PM. Reason : .]

^^^^ i lived in wood hall my freshman year, its very close to..i wanna say Clark dining hall?I enjoyed the suites there a lot. big hallway and nice bathrooms
3/25/2008 9:35:43 PM
wood hall is rad except for the 45 minute walk to clark in the frigid north carolina winters.
3/25/2008 9:37:29 PM
Sullivan is good, it's just you won't meet much of anyone there from outside your suite... you'll need to find a circle of friends elsewhere... oddly enough the people I hang out with turned out to live in Sullivan and Bragaw, anyway, so that worked. Will be moving to Bragaw next year, haven't seen any problems there, people I know enjoy it, and the rooms are a good size.
3/25/2008 9:41:41 PM
i never stayed in the international dorm but it seemed pretty cool.
3/25/2008 9:51:02 PM
lee if you want to meet the slutty girls[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 10:05 PM. Reason : and wood to clark dining hall is like 8 minutes if clark is where i think it is...]
3/25/2008 10:04:31 PM
^ 45 minutes.

I lived in Lee. The rooms were bigger but Central Campus is where it's at. My friend lived there and I had more fun coming to visit him than I ever did in Lee. But like someone else said, it really depends on who you get as a room mate. My sucked.
3/25/2008 11:26:00 PM
pick a dorm where there will be lots of freshmen, co-ed. i'm not saying don't talk to upper classmen by any means, but when you have a lot of new people away from home for the first time who don't know many people, everyone is forced to come out of their rooms and meet new people. if you move into a dorm with mostly upperclassmen people have already established their closest friends and you get caught up in that. nothing wrong with that, it's just easier to limit yourself in that scenario. i'll be honest with you, dorm rooms suck. don't worry about picking one with the biggest room. that extra 10 square feet isn't going to make a difference. use your dorm room to keep your shit. don't always study, sleep, or fuck in your dorm room. get out and enjoy yourself. and stay off the wolf web!

jesus get some money and stay at UT if you wants roomspace,girls,food,etc..

3/26/2008 8:52:51 AM

3/26/2008 8:55:35 AM
