Google "Orb". It's the best streaming software i've found. It even allows you to watch all your channels and use dvr using the tv tuner on your computer. I can watch tv shows and use my dvr on my cell phone! It also does a good job of streaming HD content to my phone/laptop. Obviously this is all limited by your upload bandwidth from your isp, which happens to be TWC in Raleigh and they suck balls. I'm lucky if i get 60kB/s on a good day.

Wow old thread. I use Plex for video. It's great. I'm not quite sure about music though. I'd use something like Spotify or Google Music.

^^^ I'd also use Plex for video, and Google Music for video

I too use Plex, it really simplifies everything and works like netflix on roku boxes that even my mom can understand. Even with TWC, it works on my phone pretty good for streaming over the net.

Plex is great although I still get some disruptions even streaming at as low as 3mbps. I've got a 11-12mbps upload on the server side and even on fast internet it doesn't always stream flawlessly but it work 90% of the time.

I've tried Plex, but can't get it to connect to the server. I've searched online and it seems a lot of people have issues using a Mac.

Yeah, I donno anyone who uses the MAC Plex server. That seems foolish. Just use any old windows/linux PC and throw a 4TB hard drive in there and you'll be straight.
