How much more is the cost of living in Charlotte compared to Raleigh? any estimates?

renting and basic living expenses really.

currently renting Cameron Village Raleigh for $1134 with no utilities included. MY complex now has crown molding, stainless steel, perfect location, etc.

Would like to have a comparable central location, but something older and doesn't have to have all the pizazz of my current complex now.

i'm glad i stayed in a 1200sqft 2br 2.5ba townhouse in falcon ridge for $650 split 2 ways while i was in college and until i bought a house - definitely wasn't perfect but well worth it

That's still a lot of money.

$550 for rent alone just for you, with a roomie? $700-800/mo could easily buy a condo or townhome somewhere near campus if you have that much money, and you could split half of that with a roomie and save even more money.

You could do so much each month with that much money...

Also, my friend is moving to charlotte to an apartment that is roughly similar to what he has in chapel hill (it's a nice place inside). It's going to be slightly cheaper for him in Charlotte than it will be here, and it really depends on where you're looking to stay. If you want to stay in the most unbelievably expensive apartments available in uptown Charlotte you're going to pay a good amount of money.

I have a ~1200 foot spot I rent in Myers Park for about $800/month...MP is a nice neighborhood, my apartments also have crown molding, but yeah you can certainly find a place in that range

Charlotte might be a little more expensive than Raleigh, but the difference in the two isn't that great...CLT/RDU compared to LA or NYC or something is going to be a huge difference, but not that significant from RDU to CLT

ive been looking on CL. All i want is a place with w/d hookups and that allows pets and is in dilworth/southend/plaza-midwood. I'm willing to give up a dishwasher and a lot of space. I just want a place to walk my doggie. I think CLT may be too expensive for me though.....I hope not.

Charlotte/Raleigh cost of living isn't all that different unless you only shop and eat in Charlotte downtown...you will be able to find something in your budget

Sorry, I just had to comment there. That line is absolutely hilarious, haha...

I also understand the whole deal about being tied down by a house. My point was more that spending $600/mo as your personal portion of a shared apartment is way way too high and that money could be saved by moving somewhere else (and if you liked investment properties, you could buy a place you wanted to live and rent half of it out while you live there). I know houses cost more than a house payment. You can still get a condo with all those fees for about what you could rent it for, unless it's one of those "expensive" complexes.

unless you call $400/ month not much difference (mortgage will be about 20% higher and then you'll have $150 + in hoa dues....... but then you get a huge tax write off too. )
