(pics/video are fine, as long as they're real--i.e., not the S2000 hoax). Seeing a kit available counts, too.

1. NA and NB Miatas
2. FC and FD RX7s
3. S13 and S14 240sx
4. 944 Porsche
5. Z3
6. E36
7. Evo VIII
8. LT1 Camaro
9. 350z (kit available very soon, according to Hinson Supercars)
10. Fiero

i've seen it swapped into all sorts of classic muscle, too, but i don't remember exactly what.

LSx motors have made it into a shit-ton of bmw models, not just e36s. E30s are the most noteworthy

12. E30

i've seen them in regular E36s, E36 M3s, and a Z3 (which is a sorta-E36). I've seen a swap-in-progress E30, but hadn't seen a completed one, so I left it out.

that, minus the lambo-doors, raised just a little to a functional right height, and maybe with a slightly different--yet similarly lipped set of wheels

and with an LS1/T56 residing under the hood

would be my idea of a good time.

people have put every motor you can think of into an e-30 from blown benz motors to sr20 dets
i couldn't believe it when i started to investigate... i mean a v12 bimmer motor wasn't tooo extreme of a swap compared to some.

13. Jag XJ6/XJ12 (Series I - III)
14. Volvo 740 (I think...I know I've seen LT1 swaps in the 740...the one JBaz was talking about was actually an old Volvo Amazon but that was a serious custom all around...)

Land Cruisers, Jeeps, Land Rovers. Seen a turbo LSx in a Volvo 740 wagon a while back. Seen an LSx with a fox-body Mustang wrapper on it too.

if by close enough you mean they're both gm motors. the lsx doesn't really have much in common with older sbc's.

^tr00 tr00. I know that the sbc and LS series are completely different, however, it was still a badass ride. One of my buddies is talking about throwing in a viper v10 into a 928.

I know it is a bit of a stretch, but its not like an LSx wouldn't fit/work. There aren't many difference in adapting a LSx in place of a sbc for the Porsche world. I mean, there are alot of differences, but no one major difference that would make one swap any more complicated than the other (with the exception of drive by wire, and CA's anal OBDII emissions.) That's why I included it.

I do like how much room there was in those Dastun LSx swaps. Too bad 3/4 of them on the road have rust.

i especially have a Woodrow for an LS1 swapped RX-7 (FD chassis).

that may find itself onto my to-do list when I get back from Iraq about a year from now. My list of cars I want changes all the time, as we all know, but this one has been at the forefront for a while.

I just don't get the appeal of a LS1 FD swap -- I'd much rather see the 20B swap, personally.

what's not to get? from a performance standpoint, it's a no brainer. i love the 3 and 4 rotor fd's though... talk about a wild sounding engine.

yeah, they sound cool

but the LS1 is lightweight, powerful, easy to mod, cheap to buy, tough as nails, allows for mounting low and far back against the firewall, etc

the only reason to have a rotary RX-7 beyond the short amount of time it takes to destroy the original engine is just for the sake of keeping it rotary as Mazda intended, or for the uniqueness factor. i can't really think of any practical reason to use a rotary of any flavor over the LS1.

awww, shit. looks like there are a couple of S2000s nearing completion with LSx engines!

only problems are that (1) it's harder to find an S2k roller than an FD! (2) i bet it would be more expensive if you did find one (3) you'd have to swap out the rear end, for sure. doable (see: Miata, some BMWs), but the FD is nice in that you can keep the stock rear.

Seems like the hard top of an fd would be a little more rigid under the newly found torque loads the chassis would have to handle.

fuuuuuck no

you can build an LS1 swapped FD for high teens, including the donor and engine/trans

or a miata for 10-12k (on up to as much as you want to spend, of course--i'd prob end up spending mid teens, which is why i'm more interested in just going with the RX7)

the donor would obviously be more expensive (there aren't a lot of nice Solstice/Sky rollers out there for cheap, yet), but my guess is that it would cost about the same as the Miata, since you'd prob have to put a ford 8.8 diff in it.

i was talking for it to be turn key from them.

the rear should be up to spec in them unless you're really dead hooking it. they supposedly took it from the STS-V, which will accept at least the carrier from vettes, and i believe everything else but i'm not positive. that would give you availability of hardened outputs, heat treated cv shafts/joints, etc...

^sweet. i just had an awesome thought. swap my current motor into the new car, then either part my c5 out or drop a basic stock ls1 back in and sell it. or maybe hinson would take the whole thing in on a trade deal. definitely serious, this has peaked my interest more than anything else recently.

ahh, ok. well, for a turn-key, consider this:

http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/FDTurnkey.htm

they charge $8650 to build a turn-key FD, plus cost of engine, transmission, and donor car. If you could find a Solstice/Sky roller, it prob wouldn't be expensive at all.

they charge $7450 for a turn-key FC.

don't list any prices for the 240sx.

[Edited on March 23, 2008 at 2:38 AM. Reason : of all things to throw an LS1 into, why such a boner for the Solstice/Sky?]

looks like they're labor on most of their current offerings is is 8-9k. that would bring the total pretty close to my estimation unless you just got some screaming deals on stuff. i'm thinking i could trade them my car, slap the motor in the solstice/sky, and the rest of my car covers their labor, etc. all i'm out is buying a roller or otherwise suitable swap candidate. looks like they're trying to get into vette stuff, so getting a project car might just work.

well, really, their labor itself is only maybe 3000ish, if you subtract out what it would cost for you to buy all the parts included and do it yourself. what does an LS1/t56 combo go for? $4k or so?

if you could actually find a Solstice roller, what do you think it would cost? 10-15k? If you found a roller, I don't see you breaking $30k on the project. If you had to buy a running car as the donor, then yeah.

i just love them. they're also different. you hardly see them around, much less with an lsx. best looking back to basics roadster out there imo. all it's missing is big power. they're like little baby corvettes, especially the sky. also has to be a little more practical and up to the task mechanically over a miata, etc.

i like s2k's also, but i'm pretty it'd get a 2jz over an ls1 if it was mine (whoa, did the lsx nutrider just say that??).
