i was just thinking about how bad rbc sucks for a new arena. its so bland and concretey and the concourse is boring and the upstairs concourse is basically unfinished. its such a cheap arena. the jumbotron and everything. mci reminds me of it but even the mci center is better. whats your favorite?here are mineamerican airlinesstaplespepsileast favorite?the garden-old
3/16/2008 10:24:19 PM
i wouldn't consider it "new" anymore
3/16/2008 10:25:12 PM
well i mean that is why we are getting a new jumbotron and everything probably this offseason or the next (hurricanes, would probably happen with the RBC isn't booked if they do do it, July-ish)jesus are you going to complain about everything[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:26 PM. Reason : not to mention the jumbotron was top of the line when it went up ]oh the MCI Center is far from being better, that place to so crammed in the best i can rememberjust because the location sucks doesn't mean the arena sucks, that seems to be all you care about[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:27 PM. 3/16/2008 10:26:00 PM
I really like Gilbert
3/16/2008 10:26:42 PM
really? everyone i've talked to, including visiting fans, thinks it's nice. it's definitely the second nicest arena in the state after the Bobcats Arena. we definitely need HD video scoreboards though.
3/16/2008 10:28:49 PM
i think it sucks b/c it's a hockey arena, but that's just me.
3/16/2008 10:28:56 PM
ya location is all i care about which is exactly why my least favorite arena is what it is...
3/16/2008 10:30:57 PM
what the fuck, its an arena that houses a hockey teamyeah they play hockey in the Bobcats Arena too, what's your point. what does being a "hockey arena" have anything to do with how nice it is. other than the banners and a few other small places, you would hardly know. without the history, that's like saying MSG sucks because it's a hockey arenaits still a good arena[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:35 PM. Reason : and the upstairs of the Bobcats Arena definitely isn't anything amazing, other than the open area]
3/16/2008 10:34:01 PM
The RBC Center is definitely bland, and everything is kind of squeezed in. But, due to the roof being so absurdly low, it's one of the loudest arenas out there, so I love it for that. Anyway, I'm gonna throw in Xcel Energy Center
3/16/2008 10:34:49 PM
and FWIW, i'm not saying the arena isn't bland, it has its downsides, but it's FAR from "sucking"
3/16/2008 10:36:30 PM
the thing that bugs me about the RBC is the top of the arena is way too cluttered by trying to hang all of state's and the hurricanes banners. I've heard other team's fans mention this too.
3/16/2008 10:39:26 PM
its located in the middle of nowhere and it was built around a decade ago. These arenas you guys are showing are in the middle of cities. Of course they're gonna look nice
3/16/2008 10:40:13 PM
yeah it'd be nice if State would just hang one NCAA banner for each round that we've gotten to instead of a separate banner
3/16/2008 10:40:34 PM
it doesn't suck but im speaking relativity. if you ranked it with all the nba arenas it would be towards the bottom. i guess if you rank it with all the active professional areans it would rank around the middle (average) but its just not a nice arena. there is absolutely nothing visually appealing about it. and now the ftw brings it up, i cannot think of a more middle of nowehre arena on top of all that. bobcats arena is pretty nice but its not great. unless of course you compare it to the rbc.nba simply has more money for better areans. most of the nice nhl arenas are nba areans like i said. [Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:42 PM. Reason : nba has the arenas.]it has nothing to do with history or location how nice an arena looks. point and caseugly shithole[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:45 PM. Reason : ill]
3/16/2008 10:41:00 PM
I'm a fan of Dallas' American Airlines Center
3/16/2008 10:42:40 PM
I think the only reason they hang every NHL teams banner in there is so people can try to guess what team its for"What the fuck team is that? Columbus? They have a hockey team? What the fuck is a Blue Jacket?"I've seen that reaction from at least five different people
3/16/2008 10:42:58 PM
3/16/2008 10:43:41 PM
Phillips Arena in Atlanta has always irked me with it's "hey guys let's put all the suites in a stack on one side" design. I do like how the front spells out ATLANTA though.
3/16/2008 10:44:22 PM
yeah the NHL banners are so distracting some of the state banners are twice the size of the hurricanes banners, not to mention there is so many more of them
3/16/2008 10:46:01 PM
but i can't see them!!i don't care one bit about the hurricanes, or every other gd team in the nhl, or that eric stahl made this year's allstar game.i want to see nc state banners. two NC banners and you can't see them b/c the hurricanes had their 10th anniversary. this makes me angry.

Does the Mav's AA Center remind anyone else of an airplane hangar shapewise?[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:49 PM. Reason : ]
3/16/2008 10:48:25 PM
^Well there are airplanes hanging all over the concourse of the place
3/16/2008 10:49:33 PM
Conseco Fieldhouse has always been one of my favorites... I also like the new Brooklyn arena from the plans.
3/16/2008 10:50:20 PM

3/16/2008 10:51:51 PM

even if the arena sucked ass?[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:54 PM. Reason : i don't understand why it matters what goes on when state isn't playing][Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:54 PM. Reason : i mean they do other stuff in the dean dome too][Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:55 PM. Reason : have you even thought of the economical part of this yet?]
3/16/2008 10:54:24 PM
3/16/2008 10:59:38 PM
please tell me the nhl team that plays in FUCKING MIAMI THEN
3/16/2008 11:00:39 PM
^American Airlines Center is in Dallas with the Mavs and StarsAmerican Airlines Arena is in Miami with just the Heat. Panthers play north of Miami.
3/16/2008 11:05:38 PM
3/16/2008 11:05:49 PM
3/16/2008 11:07:25 PM
um, the Florida Panthers. But I was referring to American Airlines Arena in Dallas (which host the mavs/stars), not the one in Miami of the same name
3/16/2008 11:08:14 PM
3/16/2008 11:08:15 PM
woo yeah 6 or 7 fucking banners are so distractingthe 30 team banners along the middle in the top are hardly even noticeable i still don't see what's so much of a problem of having other things going on in the arena
3/16/2008 11:14:03 PM
b/c as a result is a less than ideal basketball arena.look, i know we had to cheap out and share an arena w/ the hurricanes, i get it. there's no way that you would honestly not prefer to have our own arena.and our banners are hard as fuck to see, i don't care what you say.
3/16/2008 11:16:12 PM
I'm somewhat of the opinion that State is the entity that's cluttering up the ceiling of the RBC. Part of me would be in favor of having a banner listing our ACC Tournament Championships, a banner listing our Southern Conference championships, a banner for 1974, a banner for 1983, DT's jersey, and nothing else. I just don't see the point in celebrating simply making the NCAA tournament. And as nice as it is to honor various great players we've had, it almost takes away from the significance of #44 hanging up there.
3/16/2008 11:16:34 PM
maybe if you are upstairs
3/16/2008 11:16:54 PM
^ no.have you even been to the rbc center?hey what's that in the top right corner of this image? is that a 1974 national championship banner? i'm only guessing based on the year, b/c i can't see the fucking thing.[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 11:20 PM. Reason : picture]
3/16/2008 11:18:23 PM
i sometimes see little bits of confetti still strown about randomly from when the canes won the cup almost 2 years ago.
3/16/2008 11:21:09 PM
3/16/2008 11:22:18 PM
3/16/2008 11:22:30 PM
Weren't they talking about the 'canes moving because the RBC center isn't making money or something? This would create a massive domino effect.
3/16/2008 11:23:21 PM
No, they weren't. In fact, the lease was just extended until 2019.
3/16/2008 11:23:47 PM
3/16/2008 11:23:58 PM
except we don't have a nice arena haha
3/16/2008 11:25:06 PM
3/16/2008 11:25:45 PM
I thought this thread was about your favorite arenas. And how many schools in the country have an arena anywhere even remotely near the size of the RBC Center. The only ones I can think of are UNC and some school in Kansas City who are desperately seeking a NBA or NHL team to share the arena with.
3/16/2008 11:27:39 PM
The hockey shit does get on my nerves, and everytime I look at those international flags all I think about is Herb's basketball teams. But we all know it doesn't matter where your home court is if your team is worth a shit. Bitching about the RBC center is dumb.
