this thread has been a long time in waiting

off the top of my head (since I'm sure others will remind me of some awesome ones I forgot) I'd have to say metal gear takes the cake

the helicopter battle vs liquid in the first one comes to mind, and the whole last battle sequence was pretty crazy with the car chase, fist fight, and metal gear battle

but I'd have to say the battle vs the old sniper guy in the third game was probably the most unique for me, a game of hide and seek that lasted hours in some huge simulated jungle (I've never fought a boss in such a large range before) really stuck out for me

also fighting in bowser in 3d for the first time was cool and the ruby and whatever weapons in ff7 since they were damn near impossible come to mind

C'thun in World of Warcraft is still my favorite boss fight of all time in a video game. NEVER have I had so much fun in a video game bossfight and it was a creative fight.

I always thought the first form of Metroid Prime in MP1 was really fun. Del Lago from Resident Evil 4, Krauser from Resident Evil 4, and Mother Brain from Super Metroid.

ah yea metroid prime def had some good ones, the prime metroid was one of the most challenging battles I had fought recently, I think I remember it taking me a pretty long time to beat, mega ridley was pretty tough and scary too

I always thought mother brain was a little weak though, at least the first part, not nearly as cool as kraid of phantoon

Ruby Weapon in FF7 because it took so damn long... So many casts of Knights of the Round.

I forget the name of the created monster in FFX that has like 10 billion HP or something insane like that... I whooped his ass with 99999 hits all day long.

MGS is an obvious choice since pretty much every boss battle in that game is epic... so I'm going to go ahead and throw out the obvious choices like Sephiroth, Ganondorf, Bowser, and my personal choice for best villain ever Revolver Ocelot.

However, still to this day, my favorite final boss of all time is...

MSG2 had a pretty sick story line and the ship was pretty rad, the problem with the other facility was the endless walking around zones that looked exactly the same. Again, the story line and bosses were still pretty awesome.

Twin Emperors >>>

enormously over-sized models, gigantic humongous room, dynamic fight, much fun

all the 25 man stuff is small and not as epic as it was...most of the bosses are ~150% your char size, twin emps was like 1000% larger

no doubt on EQ1. i mean really, sure other mmo raids are hard too, but those required hundreds of ppl and there was shit for raid support back then. took some organization.

true that

but any of the bosses in the MGS series top my list as most fun/challenging (the whole MGS3 ending boss battle, while not difficult, was pretty awesome for it's cinematic qualities and movie feel)

and I loved fighting 'The End' in MGS3, that was probably the most epic sniper battle I've played. One time I ended up saving in the middle of the battle and loaded back up like a few weeks later, and the old man had died of natural causes. (cheap easter egg) I felt bad because I wanted to beat him fair and square so I replayed it form an earlier save.

ganondorf was pretty cool but that's because I was in middle school playing Ocarina and that was probably my first big boss on any video game

I remember the end of megaman 2 being a pretty tough challenge, mostly cause your energy packs didn't carry over if you died and you had to beat like a ton of levels at once and then fight everyone again and beat several forms of dr.wily

I always think of that giant spider demon when I think of Devil May Cry because it was the first indicator that the game wasn't gonna show you any mercy.

There is actually an end to bubble bobble?

And the winner has to be original Mario. With that music playing and all, those stupid hammers flying all over...

Seven Force - Gunstar Heroes

Bowser - Super Mario Galaxy (not hard, but great music and cinematics)

Magus - Chrono Trigger

Ganon - Zelda: Wind Waker

Mother Brain - Super Metroid

I second Kefka and all the MGS1 bosses.

If we are talking about hardest, it's pretty much every boss from Ninja Gaiden.
