So I'm on my way to work at the WRAL Soccer Fields... Driving on the inner beltline by the Hillsborough St. exit. A 17 year old kid in a Camaro goes skidding across the road because he's driving 70 mph up the onramp and it's raining. He lost control of his car and crashed into the median. The Lexus in front of me had enough time to hit the brakes and stop. I, in my 1993 Maxima however, did not have enough time to stop and crashed into the back of the Lexus. Airbag deployed, everyone was alright... yay. My car comes out with moderate to sever damage, the Lexus isn't that badly hit, thank god [for my insurance].The thing that really sucks about it is that since no one hit the Camaro that the case will be treated as two seperate incidents and the dude's insurance won't cover the damage to my car. So I'm now without a car, no way to fix it, no way to get another car right now. I'm basically fucked. At least I'm not hurt though./blog

that sucks man. glad you're ok, but still it's a shame that 17yr old doesn't have any responsibility in your accident.
3/15/2008 3:23:43 PM
You were following too close to the Lexus...that's why insurance isn't going to help you out.
3/15/2008 3:24:06 PM
Uh, no. The rain and the fact that the Lexus has anti-lock brakes and I don't had more to do with it than anything. If the kid hadn't gone skidding across the road this never would have happened. I didn't even get a ticket for following too closely.
3/15/2008 3:26:24 PM
no ABS ftl.(i don't have it either )
3/15/2008 3:26:49 PM
When it's raining you're supposed to increase your distance from the car in front of you. The only reason that you hit the car in front of you is because you were following too close. But GG on still being alive and well [Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:28 PM. Reason : ]

this had to have been hours ago. when was it raining?sorry to hear brolly.
3/15/2008 3:30:03 PM
I think I was driving a safe enough distance behind the car. I understand that you're supposed to increase the distance when it's raining, but if I'd had ABS I would have been able to stop. I felt the brakes lock up and I even had enough time to think to myself, "FUCK, FUCK, FUCK," as I realized I wasn't going to be able to stop. This is a horribly, horribly unfair thing to happen. I don't have collision and now I don't have a car.^ Happened at approximately 1:50 pm today. It was drizzling outside. Just enough to make the roads slick.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:31 PM. how old are your tires? heh.
3/15/2008 3:31:42 PM
Front two tires are used, but still had good tread on them and I bought each of them in the past 4 months. Back tires aren't bad at all because my car is FF so all the tread comes off the front tires.
3/15/2008 3:33:16 PM
glad your OK
3/15/2008 3:34:19 PM
just curious. i drive a FWD car and i know it makes a big difference how worn the tires are.
3/15/2008 3:34:23 PM
when i read about you hitting the Lexus in front of you, I was like, you are following too closely....when you hit someone from behind, it is almost always your fault...it was raining, you were probably going 75mph and so was the Lexus that you were ridding the ass of.Hopefully you learned your lesson...you should expect the unexpected when driving.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:37 PM. 3/15/2008 3:36:01 PM
Yeah it does. But I literally just got a new one put on like last week when one of them went flat. I've noticed that the front tires matter way more than the back just because all the turning and accelerating is done through the front. My brakes were pretty shitty though and I'm pretty sure that's where the problem was.^ No, I was going maybe 60, asshole. I was also not riding the ass of the person in front of me because I wasn't in that big of a hurry and I never do that anyway. It was because she saw the Camaro skidding across the road before I did. I thought it was normal braking and I didn't hit my brakes right when I saw her do it. By the time I realized she was slamming on them to come to stop it was too late. I don't appreciate you douche bags telling me I'm a dumbass for following too closely when I can guarantee that yall don't do it either. Fuck off.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:40 PM. Reason : ]
3/15/2008 3:37:26 PM
^^Exactly what I said.I don't care how fast or how slow you were going, what condition your car is in, how old you tires are, it doesn't matter, if you hit the car in front of you it's your fault, you were following too close.I tried to say it wasn't my fault when I hit a guy from behind when I was 16, but I wasn't paying attention, and I was too close.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:38 PM. when it is raining, most breaks are shitty, expecially when you are following too closely AND it is raining.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:38 PM. Reason : w]
3/15/2008 3:38:16 PM
shit happens when it rains.
3/15/2008 3:38:21 PM
So I am guessing you are going to have to pay for the car you hit? You might have to add that to the list about what really sucks.....hopefully the Lexus person doesnt sue you.
3/15/2008 3:40:56 PM
A safe distance is a distance that allows you to keep from hitting the car in front of you when they slam on their brakes. You're responsible.
3/15/2008 3:42:18 PM
^ THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!
3/15/2008 3:42:59 PM
She was definitely cool about it. I apologized to her and she said she knew it wasn't my fault. I have insurance, so I can definitely cover it, but the damage was so slight that it might be cheaper to pay for it out of pocket. Also, I've never been in a wreck before and this was a freak thing. I'm definitely not a bad driver at all.
3/15/2008 3:43:23 PM
expect her to sue.....claiming whiplash or something....you should find out sometime next week.....and you do know your insurance will go up because of this.....accident....right? especially because it is your fault(it would even if it wasnt)
3/15/2008 3:45:30 PM
were you stoned?
3/15/2008 3:45:31 PM
watch her submit a bill for 2k to your insurance company...i think that is 2pts.
3/15/2008 3:48:05 PM
^^
3/15/2008 3:50:36 PM
you're to blame for this.
3/15/2008 3:54:30 PM
FUCK YOU MISTER
3/15/2008 3:54:49 PM
probably b/c you're stoned!
3/15/2008 3:59:56 PM
first of all, you're in no position to judge how much damage costs...there can be all kinds of damage your eyes don't seesecondly...IT WAS YOUR FUCKING FAULTyou don't have ABS, other kid, blah blah, blah...the fact of the matter is if you can not come to a stop when someone else in front of you does, it's your fault...maybe your brain is too clogged with bong resin to remember the basics of driving, but IT IS YOUR FAULTmy guess is you didn't even know what the traffic situation in the other lanes was
3/15/2008 4:00:45 PM
can you take the camaro boy to a claims court?
3/15/2008 4:00:48 PM
your insurance is going to be fucked
3/15/2008 4:01:31 PM
i like that the intention here was to get a lot of 'oh man that sucks' but instead the OP is getting railed for following too close.
3/15/2008 4:02:05 PM
Look at my profile for the TWW mentality. I was innocent in my crash and made a thread, only to get a dozen asshats asking enough questions to turn my answers around and blame me for it.Tis the TWW life. [Edited on March 15, 2008 at 4:06 PM. Reason : .]

[quoteI think I was driving a safe enough distance behind the car. I understand that you're supposed to increase the distance when it's raining, but if I'd had ABS I would have been able to stop. ][/quote]obviously you weren't at a safe distanceand what would've happened had you been equipped with ABS is pretty much irrelevent, isn't it?not to mention that if you know how to operate non-ABS brakes, they're very close to ABS brakes in terms of stopping distance. i seriously doubt that it would've made the difference between having a wreck or not (seeing as you hit the car hard enough to deploy your airbag)and "not fair"? are you kidding me? you're the one who didn't have collision insurance. that's fine, but if you destroy your car, you pay the piper. it sucks that the Camaro set up a less than ideal scenario for you, but you should've been accounting for such contigencies--a good bit of the responsibility still lies on you.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 4:18 PM. what i dont get is that if the camaro had not have went crazy none of it would have happened, so how is it the imstoned persons fault
3/15/2008 4:16:59 PM
because if you hit someone in front of you who suddenly comes to a stop it means you are following them too closely
3/15/2008 4:18:02 PM
3/15/2008 4:18:07 PM
as far as i know, it's always your fault if you hit the person in front of you.

3/15/2008 4:19:28 PM
3/15/2008 4:20:13 PM
ok so just to clarify...none of this woulda happened if the camaro had not have been driving recklessly, and this guy didnt get a ticket for following too closely, but its still his fault?
3/15/2008 4:20:27 PM
In the eyes of TWW, yes. Thankfully, TWW is full of complete fucking morons so I don't give a fuck what they say.
3/15/2008 4:21:26 PM
its his fault he hit the lexus...not his fault the camaro went out of control...an accident being your fault does not always equal you getting a ticket btw.^fucking morons with cars[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 4:22 PM. Reason : ]
