So I'm on my way to work at the WRAL Soccer Fields... Driving on the inner beltline by the Hillsborough St. exit. A 17 year old kid in a Camaro goes skidding across the road because he's driving 70 mph up the onramp and it's raining. He lost control of his car and crashed into the median. The Lexus in front of me had enough time to hit the brakes and stop. I, in my 1993 Maxima however, did not have enough time to stop and crashed into the back of the Lexus. Airbag deployed, everyone was alright... yay. My car comes out with moderate to sever damage, the Lexus isn't that badly hit, thank god [for my insurance].

The thing that really sucks about it is that since no one hit the Camaro that the case will be treated as two seperate incidents and the dude's insurance won't cover the damage to my car. So I'm now without a car, no way to fix it, no way to get another car right now. I'm basically fucked. At least I'm not hurt though.

that sucks man. glad you're ok, but still it's a shame that 17yr old doesn't have any responsibility in your accident.

You were following too close to the Lexus...that's why insurance isn't going to help you out.

Uh, no. The rain and the fact that the Lexus has anti-lock brakes and I don't had more to do with it than anything. If the kid hadn't gone skidding across the road this never would have happened. I didn't even get a ticket for following too closely.

When it's raining you're supposed to increase your distance from the car in front of you. The only reason that you hit the car in front of you is because you were following too close.

But GG on still being alive and well

I think I was driving a safe enough distance behind the car. I understand that you're supposed to increase the distance when it's raining, but if I'd had ABS I would have been able to stop. I felt the brakes lock up and I even had enough time to think to myself, "FUCK, FUCK, FUCK," as I realized I wasn't going to be able to stop. This is a horribly, horribly unfair thing to happen. I don't have collision and now I don't have a car.

^ Happened at approximately 1:50 pm today. It was drizzling outside. Just enough to make the roads slick.

Front two tires are used, but still had good tread on them and I bought each of them in the past 4 months. Back tires aren't bad at all because my car is FF so all the tread comes off the front tires.

when i read about you hitting the Lexus in front of you, I was like, you are following too closely....when you hit someone from behind, it is almost always your fault...it was raining, you were probably going 75mph and so was the Lexus that you were ridding the ass of.

Hopefully you learned your lesson...you should expect the unexpected when driving.

Yeah it does. But I literally just got a new one put on like last week when one of them went flat. I've noticed that the front tires matter way more than the back just because all the turning and accelerating is done through the front. My brakes were pretty shitty though and I'm pretty sure that's where the problem was.

^ No, I was going maybe 60, asshole. I was also not riding the ass of the person in front of me because I wasn't in that big of a hurry and I never do that anyway. It was because she saw the Camaro skidding across the road before I did. I thought it was normal braking and I didn't hit my brakes right when I saw her do it. By the time I realized she was slamming on them to come to stop it was too late. I don't appreciate you douche bags telling me I'm a dumbass for following too closely when I can guarantee that yall don't do it either. Fuck off.

^^Exactly what I said.

I don't care how fast or how slow you were going, what condition your car is in, how old you tires are, it doesn't matter, if you hit the car in front of you it's your fault, you were following too close.

I tried to say it wasn't my fault when I hit a guy from behind when I was 16, but I wasn't paying attention, and I was too close.

when it is raining, most breaks are shitty, expecially when you are following too closely AND it is raining.

So I am guessing you are going to have to pay for the car you hit? You might have to add that to the list about what really sucks.....hopefully the Lexus person doesnt sue you.

A safe distance is a distance that allows you to keep from hitting the car in front of you when they slam on their brakes. You're responsible.

She was definitely cool about it. I apologized to her and she said she knew it wasn't my fault. I have insurance, so I can definitely cover it, but the damage was so slight that it might be cheaper to pay for it out of pocket.

Also, I've never been in a wreck before and this was a freak thing. I'm definitely not a bad driver at all.

I took pictures of the other cars on my phone. There is definitely not 2k worth of damage to her car. I would say $500 tops. I will fight this as hard as I have to to keep shit from fucking up my insurance. I realize I'm going to lose my car from this, but the accident was not my fault and I will kill someone if they try to blame it on me. I didn't even get a ticket for this.

first of all, you're in no position to judge how much damage costs...there can be all kinds of damage your eyes don't see

secondly...IT WAS YOUR FUCKING FAULT

you don't have ABS, other kid, blah blah, blah...the fact of the matter is if you can not come to a stop when someone else in front of you does, it's your fault...maybe your brain is too clogged with bong resin to remember the basics of driving, but IT IS YOUR FAULT

my guess is you didn't even know what the traffic situation in the other lanes was

Look at my profile for the TWW mentality. I was innocent in my crash and made a thread, only to get a dozen asshats asking enough questions to turn my answers around and blame me for it.

Tis the TWW life.

Just use all that money you saved in premiums to buy a new car. You wouldn't have gotten anything anyway, a 1993 Maxima is worth what, maybe $1500?

obviously you weren't at a safe distance

and what would've happened had you been equipped with ABS is pretty much irrelevent, isn't it?

not to mention that if you know how to operate non-ABS brakes, they're very close to ABS brakes in terms of stopping distance. i seriously doubt that it would've made the difference between having a wreck or not (seeing as you hit the car hard enough to deploy your airbag)

and "not fair"? are you kidding me? you're the one who didn't have collision insurance. that's fine, but if you destroy your car, you pay the piper. it sucks that the Camaro set up a less than ideal scenario for you, but you should've been accounting for such contigencies--a good bit of the responsibility still lies on you.

There was definitely a car there. That's why I didn't swerve into the other lane. It's easy to say I was at fault for this (which technically I was, I realize that). But if the car in front of me had hit the Camaro and I had hit that car then I would be getting a new car out of this.

I feel like if I had truly been at fault for this I would have gotten a ticket. I did not receive a ticket, therefore I just got fucked. All you people who are giving me shit are douchebags.
