All of the places I take first dates to are closed on Sundays. Not looking for anything too fancy, just some place cozy with any kind of good dinner (except seafood, we're not seafood people). Suggestions?

curious...what's not to like?
3/15/2008 1:29:42 PM
I've now set a rule not to take a girl out to dinner for the first "date".Strictly drinks...but usually at a bar that has tapas or a small food menu so you can both still get something to eat if you're hungry. No use spending big money on a meal if its not going to work out. And if you find out the girl sucks or is crazy early in the night, then you can peace out after a couple drinks after making a good excuse (especially easy on a Sunday night)...you don't have to wait around to finish the meal or even worse if the service is god awful slow.Dinner is too much of a commitment for a first date.

3/15/2008 1:39:31 PM
interesting philosophy, lolI think I've settled on Wasabi in MacGregor Village
3/15/2008 1:40:40 PM
^The philosophy works pretty damn well.Also...if you're going to dinner...do Sushi. It's quick and fast...and it encourages interaction with both of you getting different kinds of sushi and trying each others. Plus, if she's a laid back chick you can get her to try some sake and get more liquored up...therefor increasing the possibility of even more fun later on in the night. One day I'm going to write all this shit down.

Isn't The Rockford open on Sunday?I have heard the art museum's restaurant is good too...the man who managed it at one time now has a place near progress energy downtown but they only serve weekday lunches and coffee.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:14 PM. Reason : I should read.]

Yeah, that's why I edited. I must have skipped over your post.
3/15/2008 3:16:41 PM
thanks for letting us know
3/15/2008 3:18:14 PM
Now that I think of it, I went on a good first date to Blinco's. The food is decent...And they have pool tables and shuffleboard. I bought a gift certificate off restaurants.com and took the boyfriend and another guest a few weekends ago and got out spending 25 for all three of us to have a full meal.

there is nothing inappropriate about that comment, it's just a fact of life
3/15/2008 3:22:36 PM

RattlerRyan-I saw you mention Wasabi, which I've never been to. How is it? I like the bar area of Shaba Shabu. We went there on Valentine's and were seated immediately. There's a waitress with blonde hair and she was really great.. Don't get the pomegrant martini though...yuck.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 3:29 PM. Reason : directed]
3/15/2008 3:28:39 PM
Wasabi is really good they used to have a great lunch special for like 7 bucks, but I don't know if they still do. You get soup salad and your choice of one dish. Although an interesting pick since you don't like seafood, but I guess you don't have to get sushi.
3/15/2008 3:30:45 PM
yeah I love ThaiThe place is nice enough that it can be as casual or formal of a date that you want it to be, and I thought the quality of the food to have been excellent. It was the best red curry I've had in town.

It pisses me off how hard to it is to find a good meal on Sunday nights in Raleigh. Personally I don't mind wait staff toiling on the sabbath.
3/15/2008 8:53:39 PM
If you're looking for italian food, there's Vincent's in North Raleigh off Creedmoor Rd.I took my girlfriend there last weekend and she loved it (and she's italian so her standards for italian food are pretty high)....it was reasonably priced, authentic, and very casual

Meh, Lily's on a first date could be OK if they aren't too busy. Or you could get stuck waiting a long time with a long awkward silence. Sounds dangerous to me.Hayes Barton area seems to close up shop early on Sundays, too. Raleigh Times is actually pretty darn cool-- I've only been there once, but their outdoor seating could be much more cozy than inside (it gets a bit loud). I hesitate to mention this for a first date, but lunch at Irregardless Cafe could work, too. Not sure exactly what their menu for Sunday is, though. I think they might have a brunch type menu. Shaba Shabu had delicious sushi-- a bit pricy, but worth every penny.
