So, I gave 5 Guys another try today. I'd been to one in NoVa a few years back and wasn't impressed, but everyone RAVES about their burgers and their fries. To their credit, the staff was super friendly, but I paid $8.92 for a cheeseburger, small fries, small drink. The burgers and the fries are greasy and of *meh* quality. For the same amount of money, I could get a burger, fries, hotdog, milkshake, and drink at Cookout. So, in my mind, Cookout >>>>> Five Guys, but I'll open the floor.Voting ends at 5pm tomorrow. First person to take up 5 Guys gets a meal on me if they win. If you lose, you owe me Cookout. And GO!
3/14/2008 3:27:24 PM
never been to 5 guys no homo so i'm guessing cookout
3/14/2008 3:28:07 PM
Sonic.
3/14/2008 3:28:28 PM
cookout hands down
3/14/2008 3:29:26 PM
i dunno, seems like the five guys person would have a better deal, as their meal is more expensive.
3/14/2008 3:30:54 PM
Definitely five guysCookout may be cheaper, but they're getting worse and worse with time. Last time i ate there i couldnt even finish, it was so gross[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 3:34 PM. Reason : ]
3/14/2008 3:32:03 PM
^^ right, so the bet is in their favor. I'm that confident that Cookout is better. Most anything that originates in Northern Virginia sucks anyhow.
3/14/2008 3:33:09 PM
The 5 Guys in Raleigh is better than the one here, but cookout, no question
3/14/2008 3:47:37 PM
3/14/2008 3:48:02 PM
Mojo's.
3/14/2008 3:48:16 PM
^^ that is my point. 5 guys is a ripoff.1 Cheeseburger = $4.691 Fry = $ 1.991 Soft Drink = $1.59Tax = $.65Total: $8.92and what about the fries? Some woman made a point of walking up to me and talking about the fries but IMO: Zaxby's Fries ~ Bojangles Fries > McDonalds Fries > Five Guys fries. I can soak a potato in grease too, but I can't charge that much for it.]
3/14/2008 3:49:51 PM
i agree w/ this 100%. i heard that five guys was the best place ever for burgers, and was very disappointed, and it was expensive as all hell.cookout on the other hand is half the price and fucking delicious.
3/14/2008 3:52:41 PM
holy crap i didn't know the burgers were that much. i always get the small and load it down with toppings btw there is no small drink or small fry. all the drinks are the same size, and the fries are regular and large ]
3/14/2008 3:57:35 PM
Five Guys is decent, but nothing special. I do love the way they number the burgers, though. Great idea. The fact that I can get a variety of entire meals at Cookout with a five dollar bill is the big appeal for me.
3/14/2008 3:57:59 PM
yeah i flipping love those cookout trays, but on the criteria of quality, five guys ftw]
3/14/2008 3:59:07 PM
cookout just flat out kicks assyou can't beat the 3.99 combo
3/14/2008 3:59:11 PM
Five guys is deliciousBut a freakin grilled cheese sandwich is over two dollars there. I can get two jr. bacon cheeseburgers for that. Cookout FTW
3/14/2008 3:59:50 PM
That is kinda reasonable for a burger, and it is admittedly bigger than a cookout burger, but they're mighty proud of their fries, and I just don't see it.So far:Cookout: 5Five Guys: 2And no 5 Guys supporters have come forward to accept my bet yet. ]
3/14/2008 3:59:53 PM
i like 5 guys. and apparently they are better in DC where they originated (word on the street). i am just not a fan of cookout (gasp). i don't eat burgers that often anyway so my opinion isn't very meaningful. it probably only counts as .5 of a vote.
3/14/2008 4:01:33 PM

3/14/2008 4:02:12 PM
^^ nah, a vote is a vote. One is better than the other or not, the margin doesn't count. And I was just as dissapointed in DC as I was here. Seriously, reading all the reviews they love to plaster on their walls, I'm guessing all five guys are master cock-suckers and all the reviewers were gay men. There is no way they could get reviews that good. But then again, DC is all about trendy, regardless of the substance.[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 4:04 PM. Reason : ^]

JCASHFAN, you are a fucking idiot with obviously no taste buds in your mouth. Five Guys produces better burgers than cookout, any day, and every day.
3/14/2008 4:07:06 PM
OH SHIT ITS A TIE
3/14/2008 4:07:54 PM
u might want to put names down cause in a couple pages u wont know who voted for what and start double counting votes

^^ Nah, I got it under control.[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 4:09 PM. Reason : ^]
3/14/2008 4:09:26 PM
They all come from the same pre-pattied place.Cookout ftw, 5 guys for the stomach ache
3/14/2008 4:09:27 PM
3/14/2008 4:09:39 PM
except this isn't Cookout vs. Five Guys vs. whoeverthefuckyouwanttowritein.
3/14/2008 4:10:53 PM
And Frankly, i dont give a shit about price. Quality is what matters. Whats the value in paying $3 for a crappy product?Five guys has a better quality, better tasting burger, hands down.
3/14/2008 4:12:07 PM
But MoJoe's burgers are $1 and are awesome and they have PBR tallboys for $rhodeisland.
3/14/2008 4:13:00 PM
^^ Well, that was my point, I didn't think that Five Guys was better. It was just greasy. I can get a greasy burger at Wendy's. I guess if you like your burgers that way then you'd prefer them but not I.^message_posttopic.aspx?section=9[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 4:14 PM. Reason : and none of you Five Gays fanboys has taken me up on my bet yet ]
3/14/2008 4:13:39 PM
Burgers are supposed to be greasy Cookout beef just tastes old and fake to me. Much like McDonalds and most other fast food places. Five guys tastes like real, (somewhat) fresh beef.
3/14/2008 4:17:18 PM
Back in my younger days, I could eat a 2 piece chicken dinner with 2 sides, a biscut and a sweet tea from Bojangles and not even notice it. So maybe I would have appreciated the greasyness of Five Guys then, but today . . . nah. I like Cookout Burgers, plus it isn't just the burgers, it is the whole menu here.
3/14/2008 4:20:12 PM
Cookout ftmfw.
3/14/2008 4:22:51 PM
Frankly, I don't go to Cookout for a burger. So this is comparing a chicken and shake place to a burger place.I'll take my chicken and a shake.
3/14/2008 4:25:46 PM
Cookout: 9Five Guys: 6
3/14/2008 4:29:49 PM
so, we're saying cookout isn't greasy? i'm not sure i agree.
3/14/2008 4:33:18 PM
i dont really care what all you people think, as soon as I get back to NC next month, I will be gorging myself at both of these fine dining establishments
3/14/2008 4:33:40 PM
^^ not as greasy. It doesn't pass Dr. Nick's "Window to Weight Gain" test as easily as 5 Guys.
3/14/2008 4:34:27 PM
Fortunately we have such a variety of fine burger establishments available since we all have such varied tastes
3/14/2008 4:35:37 PM
that is what is so great about America
3/14/2008 4:40:53 PM
IN SOVIET RUSSIA, FOOD ESTABLISHMENT CHOOSES YOU!

choice darling. I still believe that we should have it. If I chose to over eat and die of cardiac failure at the age of 50, I lived my life the way I wanted. Put me in a garlic press, harvest the oils for natural fuel, burn me and scatter my ashes from a Folgers can.I exercise daily, and keep tabs on my (admittedly borderline) cholesterol. If you don't it’s your arteries kiddo. Why should someone else's irresponsibility dictate my freedoms? Fuuuuccckkkkkk That.
3/14/2008 4:50:18 PM
^^Thats the downside. That people think its acceptable to eat that greasy shit day in and day out. But every so often aint gonna hurt anyone[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 4:50 PM. Reason : ]
3/14/2008 4:50:26 PM
^^ i know i know. you are smart though. its the 89749384 other people in america that wake up one day astonished that they can only fit in bed sheets. i'm still not entirely sure how that happens. discovery health never ceases to amaze me. anyway done hijacking, continue on with the debate, gentlemen
3/14/2008 4:59:42 PM
I agree that the fries at 5 Guys are not that great and that seems to alot of what they shove in your face as being the best thing about the place. When I order fries there ~50% of the cup are burnt to a crisp ones. And their burgers don't live up to the hype.I'll take Cookout over 5 guys any day.
3/14/2008 5:11:36 PM
not that its bold of a prediction, but i bet cookout wins this thread this by a lot.theres a cookout located less than a mile from campus, and its open till 3-4 am or something.five guys never had a chance
