Its good to see most people have jumped on the Tibet Bandwagon. Avoid placing all the blame on the Chinese. Key facts, 1) There are 5 million Tibetans in China, why aren't they all revolting?!2) It is not the Chinese attacking the Tibetans, but the other way around, Tibetans are attacking Chinese and Chinese shops. 3) What the hell is China suppose to do in the light of riots in one of the its key western cities? Let them burn everything down? The videoes you see on CNN are videos of Tibetans burning shit down to the ground, not Chinese. 4) I am sure this was all a random without any planning. Riots broke out in Sichuan, Ganxu, Qinghai, and Tibet arond the same time. 5) The Chinese always have claimed soverignty over Tibet for, however you look at it, for least 100 years. Tibet have always been under heavy Chinese influence or direct rule since the Tang Dynasty, over 900 years ago. I don't understand why this is getting so much press coverage, the scale doesnt even come close to "challenge" Chinese rule there. And Boycott of the Olympics?! That will not change anything, a vast majority of the Chinese population see Tibet as a part of their country, we should really aviod alienating that part of the world again.

what exactly is wrong with just letting Tibet be its own nation? Chinese national pride?

^ Why don't we just give Texas back to Mexico? A large percentage of texas is mexicans anyway.

I saw some monks crying on the news tonight--they had just gotten word by telephone that others were beaten and killed. It was bad. I had no idea the Chinese were cracking down so hard when I posted above--I didn't mean to be flip. I truly regret the error.
3/17/2008 11:21:55 PM
well yeah, the government got out guns and shot people.WTG Tibet and Burma for showing that azns living under oppressive regimes have no hope for the future. Sorry we couldn't help. We sympathize and all, but you know, lol, China is a big trade partner of ours.

i think DNL meant that he hopes the tibetean struggles can survive long enough to cause global outrage? that if they can continue to the olympic ceremonies, that maybe china will have to concede to increased international pressure. that their deaths and struggles wont have been completely in vainat least i hope that's what he meant.

As much as y'all may hate the Chinese, they have ruled Tibet in a much better manner than the Lama's did.
3/24/2008 11:50:22 AM
not saying you are wrong but do you have any links to back that up?[Edited on March 24, 2008 at 11:52 AM. Reason : the ruling better than the lamas did thing]

Just look up feudalism and Tibet. up until the PLA went into Tibet slavery was still legal and practiced wildly by the Lamas and ruling classes.

I hope they're Bulletproof Monks.
3/27/2008 11:50:28 AM
tibet IS ALREADY autonomous. the monks just riot cuz they're misguided. while the vast majority of monks are peaceful, there's violent ones when you factor in the fact that there's millions of tibetans living in that region. Also, it was right to crack down on the riots, as1) it wasn't peaceful protesting.2) The rioters behaved in a way that would incriminate them in what are called hate crimes in the US
3/28/2008 3:46:50 PM
From what I gathered, the monks were running a peaceful demonstration, but when some of the Chinese People's Armed Police overreacted and beat a couple of them in public, people watching attacked the police, and what started as a peaceful protest became a violent, anti-Chinese riot. From that one incident, the frustrations of many Tibetans poured forward, burning Chinese property and attacking ethnic Han.That's why the Dalai Lama was so upset with the violent protests because it gives the Chinese the perfect excuse to crackdown on the region as well as the necessary propaganda video to build up nationalist support.
