If somehow you came across something that told you that your team would lose every game for certain amount of time, would you still go to the games? Would you still root for that team? Does the length of time without a win matter (months, years, decades?)

It seems to me that a large part of going to a game (even one you think you will lose) is the hope that you will win. So if you take away that hope, is there still a purpose of going?

I don't really like the way the question is asked. If I *expected* my team to lose every game, then absolutely I would still be as big of a fan. Hell, I'm pretty sure I went to way more Panthers games the year they went 1-15 than any other year (lots of free tickets ). *Knowing* is a completely different story. Maybe the biggest attraction of sports to me is the tension and the unpredictability and potential in each game. If I knew what the result was going to be, then I guess I wouldn't see any need to root for anything. This goes for winning just as much as losing.

I'm bandwagon as fuck

Another year or two of futility from both of our main sports and I'll shift my allegiances elsewhere

That was the point . . . when you expect them to lose there can still be hope. But if you knew they would lose, there is no hope.

I would say most people would change their affiliation if they knew, especially if it was for a long period of time.

It has nothing to do with hope, it's just takes away the primary appeal of sports. It goes the other way too. If you told me right now that the Hurricanes will win the Cup this year 4-2/4-3/4-1/4-2, I guess I would say "Oh... cool... I can't wait for the intensity and excitement.... the drama...".

i'm a state fan and a Raiders fan. I'm like a dog that keeps coming back to his owner even after he's had his leg shot off and been set on fire.

Isn't this like asking if we're really State fans? Because we all still go to the games with the knowledge that more likely than not we're going to lose.

ncsu being a loser team is nothing new.

they have sucked since...... '83

its kind of sad, with our talent, that we have to have a 25 year anniversary for something that didnt have to last that long.

maybe by our 50th anniversary we would win SOMETHING.

if i knew state would lose every game, my sadness would be mostly countered by the riches i made off of betting against them over and over.

i'm still going, watching, and cheering for them aren't i?
aside from a few rare moments, it does seem to get harder every year though. but i'll keep on; i love state: not because everyone else does, not because they are always on the top of the brackets... it just means more to me than that.
