Add some kind of liquid for a smoothie (along with the ice).

You can do milk or some kind of juice(s). Pineapple and orange work pretty well. Might want to throw in some kind of sweetener too (unless you're trying to be ultra-healthy).

I hate ice in smoothies. I make all mine with frozen fruit (assuming I've had the forethought to freeze some, if not, fresh is fine too). Then I add enough juice to make it blendable. I never use milk either, but I do use yogurt occasionally.

my favorite personal recipe is:

2 frozen bananas
1.5c 1-2% milk
2tbsp sugar
2tbsp sugar-free french vanilla pudding mix
cinnamon/nutmeg to taste

break the bananas up into pieces, put them in first...then put in the milk...then the rest

chop first to break the bananas up, then blend for a bit...perfect consistency and it tastes very good to me

to avoid using pudding mix, you can substitute 1-2tbsp corn starch, a pinch of salt, 1/2tbsp vanilla extract, and 1-2tbsp sugar, though it doesn't taste as good IMO

1 banana
1 orange
4-5 strawberries
4 ice cubes
splash of milk

That just made me about 20 oz of smoothie.

I have been slacking on fruit intake, averaging about 3 fruits/week (not counting OJ).

In conclusion, I made the above drink twice and will drink both of them. Drinking my fruits allows me to get them into the diet easily.

Normally on a day like today I would have had 4-6 oz of OJ tops.

Now that I purchased a blender, I got 6 servings of fruits today.

yogurt is a good/more healthy substitute for icecream
bananas are crucial for the right texture
canned peaches work well, too

the fruit should have enough natural sugar by itself... no extra sweetener necessary

i work at a place that makes smoothies. we just use juice, frozen fruit, and fruit-flavored syrup. you could mix up some sugar and hot water to replace the syrup for sweetener, or just do without it.
