I work in a corporate communications department and we need a new camera for photographing events and various other stuff around the office. We're looking for a good camera with a great flash. We've borrowed a Canon Digital SLR and the flash sucks. What do you guys suggest? We're also looking for a smaller'ish camera that we can travel with if anyone has a suggestion for that as well.

canon digital SLR, get a separate flash.the included flash sucks for a reason--because people use their separate flashes[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 1:46 PM. Reason : i have a rebel and i've had a nikon..canon's color looks better imo]

you need to spend more money. At the very least you can get away with a Nikon D40, SB600 flash, and the 18-135 lens. That is right around a grand.

Nikon D40Its been around for a while but its great. My opinion and I'm sure that someone else here will have a strong e-opinion but you asked so you got mine.If you need to spend more then get the D60.

Pretty much all built-in flashes are going to suck. Just buy an external flash as ScHpEnXeL mentioned and learn how to use it.

You really can't go wrong with a D40 or D60 kits, as they are pretty damn cheap now. The Rebel Xt and XTi's are getting pretty cheap now that the XSi is out. Personally, I'd suggest getting a used 20D or 30D and get a 430ex flash unit. You can find used 30D's for about 500ish and 430ex for 200ish. Grab a 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS for about 300is (I've seen them low as 200) and you got a pretty good kit.

dell had the rebel XTI kit for $479 earlier this week

btw, in my post above, I meant to say the 20D is around 500ish, 30D is about 600-700ish. XTi is a nice camera

You'll want something with a wider angle lens than the 28. 17-18mm on the wide end is needed for any indoor or group stuff.

^ That's a good point, especially if you're using a camera with an APS sized sensor i.e. A camera that costs <$2500.
