http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=14783Damn, I'll still be playing the hell out of Smash Bros.
3/12/2008 7:48:27 AM
seriously.what they should've done is just taken snaking out of MK DS and ported it to wii as a launch title. it's the best one of the series so far anyway.
3/12/2008 9:51:42 AM
oh shit! too bad it comes out 2 days before GTA4
3/12/2008 9:53:03 AM
^^Agreed. And also, this is gonna get limited play time since I now have smash.
3/12/2008 9:57:47 AM
snaking is annoying, I can do it and do it if I have to to win, but it makes online play obnoxious. April 27th is still far enough away so that I expect at least one delay though
3/12/2008 12:27:03 PM
I pre-ordered it when I picked up Smash...It is selling for 59.99 but it comes with a wheel
3/13/2008 5:33:03 AM
Damn, I better start saving up for a Wii right now, lol.
3/13/2008 12:46:09 PM
they only people that hate snaking are the ones that aren't good enough to do it.
3/14/2008 7:10:37 PM
no, we hate snaking because it feels like its tearing up our DS's. It's so obnoxious when online all people want to do is play the figure 8 track so they can snake the whole time. When the boost is used as intended, through and out of turns, its fun and an advantage. that is all

3/31/2008 11:04:45 PM
no way we actually see this game before July...
4/1/2008 1:40:11 PM
Bullshit. The date is set. Nintendo has a history of delaying games, but not 3 weeks after they announce the release date. It doesn't make sense.
4/1/2008 2:08:01 PM
I preordered mine at Gamestop and it came with a coupon for $5 additional towards preorder credit when I bring in any used game for trade FYI.
4/1/2008 4:14:31 PM
nothing can beat the original on super nintendo. and the one on 64 is a close 2nd.
4/6/2008 12:59:02 AM
^Totally agree, super nintendo was by far the best mk
4/6/2008 10:01:15 AM
I'm a fan of Double Dash... It's the reason i bought a GC.
4/6/2008 12:05:53 PM
i enjoyed the co-op aspect of double dash. i wish mkwii had that, but oh well. i traded in a few games and preordered mario kart. whole thing will cost me like 6 or 7 bucks. not too shabby.
4/6/2008 1:31:47 PM
mario kart DS is probably my fave
4/6/2008 5:41:21 PM
4/6/2008 6:12:06 PM
looks fun as hell, to bad i'm broke and will stay that way for awhile
4/6/2008 6:28:32 PM
Mario Kart DS gets lots of hate from people who have never played it. It's the best in my opinion. The only real downside is the snaking.
4/6/2008 8:59:57 PM
But the snaking is a HUGE downside on that game - completely ruined the online and tarnished the game as a whole IMO.
4/6/2008 9:10:13 PM
yea snaking is pretty lame. i got a ds and mario kart on tww classifieds back in like sept of last year and just finally tried it online yesterday. sure enough, the dude that won was snakin like a madman. 4th place guy dropped out after losin one match, and me and the other guy just competed for 2nd. it'd be nice to avoid that sorta thing in mkwii.
4/7/2008 12:19:22 AM
i never played any versions beside super nintendo and 64. what is snaking?
4/7/2008 12:30:20 AM
you know how you can slide in the corners and hit back and forth to get a boost at the end of the turn?well in MK DS, the time/distance needed to do that was set so low that it was possible to continually get boosts on straightaways by 'snaking' to each side of the lane rapidly.pretty much everyone considers it an exploit except the trolls who do it constantly. It was pretty rare to get into an online match that didn't have someone doing it back in the day, I imagine its much worse now.
4/7/2008 12:50:19 AM
My sister gave it to me preordered and shipped for my bday
4/7/2008 6:59:41 AM
Why does this have to come out the weekend before finals? I'm gonna fail.
4/7/2008 9:07:33 AM
It's going to be hard for me to want to pick this up unless the online play works significantly better than Smash for the Wii. The whole steering wheel thing seems cool though.
4/7/2008 9:33:45 AM
Here's my take on the best version of Mario KartSuper Mario Kart had the racing engine I mostly prefer (none of that last place gets best items crap), but it doesn't support four players and thus falls drastically short of the others. The computer were real bastards in that game too.Mario Kart 64 was a ton of fun, but it just doesn't hold up nowadays. The framerate in four player is atrocious and the graphics are ugly as hell.Mario Kart: DD is great most of the time. But the tracks just aren't that exciting, except for DK Mountain and a few others.Mario Kart DS had some great tracks like Waluigi Pinball, the Airship, and others. It really shows how they phoned it in on MK: DD. On top of that, they made the smart decision to resurrect old tracks, something that should be a staple in new editions. The only issue is I never got a good multiplayer game going. I don't know four people with a DS, let alone four people with a DS and Mario Kart. Incidentally my younger bro said he used to have regular eight player matches at school. Yeah snaking sucks (it can be done in DD btw), but still.Never played the GBA one.My ranking:Mario Kart DS (provided you get the necessary stuff together)Super Mario KartMario Kart: DDMario Kart 64
4/7/2008 9:45:07 AM
GBA one was good because it was actually challenging, the rest of the games can be beaten 150cc-gold everything in a day.The only thing I like about MK64 today, is that awesome block fort stage in battle. ]
4/7/2008 9:59:27 AM
Double Dash was awesome because it brought the blue sparks. Mario Kart DS was definitely the best one though. It works great as a portable game.
4/7/2008 10:03:33 AM
4/7/2008 10:42:06 AM
I love how people always bitch about snaking. OH NOES, somebody can do something that takes skill and beats me because of it. If you want to win you need to learn to snake. don't bitch because you get beat by someone who is better at the game then you.
4/7/2008 3:20:00 PM
if you need to do it to win, you'd think they'd mention it in the instruction manual.
4/7/2008 5:10:13 PM
From what I hear, it's not all that tough to pull off and it needs to be done with a few specific vehicles. It just throws the balance of the game. Now snaking becomes the central focus of winning races and everything else becomes trivial by comparison.[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 5:19 PM. Reason : .]
4/7/2008 5:12:47 PM
^^ they don't tell you how to dodge blue shells in the instruction manual either but if you want to get 3 stars on everything in 150cc you damn well better be able to
4/7/2008 5:20:28 PM
it kinda reminds me of how people will get on top of buildings in neutral areas in world of warcraft and gank people...sure its possible, but does it prove your better at anything other than getting on top of that building?
4/7/2008 5:29:39 PM
it's like picking michael vick in madden
4/7/2008 5:30:35 PM
for real...or playin nba live 08 online with the rockets and scoring 62 of 64 points with tracy mcgrady because he cant be stopped.
4/7/2008 5:31:43 PM
the man is a force
4/7/2008 5:34:18 PM
To be fair tracer thinks all games are designed with some sort of cheat to foil him.
4/7/2008 7:50:46 PM
All the sources I have seen say that snaking is NOT in the game.BTW snaking is not a skill...it is an exploit because the people that made the game made it too easy to boost to the point where you could do it with no problems at all if the track was wide enough...
4/7/2008 10:23:22 PM
^^prove me wrong!
4/7/2008 11:03:17 PM
4/8/2008 12:25:54 AM
Given that people where complaining about snaking almost immediately after MKDS, HOPEFULLY nintendo has done something about it for wii. if they can't pull of online any better than smash bros, its almost not even worth worrying about. On a side note, it would look hilarious watching people try to snake with the steering wheel peripheral.
4/9/2008 2:29:52 PM
definition of snaking for those of us who only played the N64 version previously pls...
4/9/2008 2:31:08 PM

4/9/2008 2:38:00 PM
how is using the multiple turbos quickly cheating?? That was the standard in the N64 version...
4/9/2008 3:15:29 PM
^ it was much harder to use on the 64. it is ridiculously easy on the DS, you can do it pretty much the entire length of most of the tracks, the 64 couldn't be used as often/effectively, at least not in my experience
