Nothing wrong with that. Better to have them focus on issues like this. I suppose that they're using the whole "Stewards of the Earth" argument.

I remember this stupid slutty bitch named ELISE who once told me for her birthday her mom was going to get her "fixed."

When I asked her what that meant, she said she is pregnent and her mom was goin to pay for her abortion.

I've always been against abortion when used as a form of birth control.

Dude! Reality matches Fiction...
There was this book years and years ago, written by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, called Inferno. It was a sci-fi book that was kind of an update on Dante's Inferno, and it tackled all the new ways that humans had figured out to sin. Polluting had it's own special section.
So, I mean, how does this work, in the whole inner workings of Hell? Since the Vatican declared it, does the new section pop up in Hell? Has it been there all along, and we're just now finding out about it? If there's a new section, do people get moved around for polluting? Like, all those Native Americans that drove buffalo off of cliffs get moved from the "Worshipping non-Christian Gods" section of Hell to the brand-new "Fucking up the Earth" section?
Christians, gimme the down-low on this!

That's a pretty poor argument for "fucking up the earth". If anything Native Americans are the model for efficiency and sustainable living. Killing buffalo provided for food, cloths, tools, weapons, and shelter. What single thing do we use today that is like that? (And no, oil doesn't count because it is indirectly used for those things) Wastefulness in North America began as soon as the greedy white man stepped off of their boats.

Native American's hunted woolly mammoths and other species to extinction. Sure, modern Americans have hunted our own species to extinction, but why should we be punished and not Native Americans?

I'd say woolly mammoths went extinct mostly because of the changing environment and not so much due to human impact.

^ the native Americans are well known for sustainable living practices.

They had to sacrifice technological development to do it though, so there are tradeoffs.

You're never going to convince anyone of us who is used to automobiles, the internet, cellphones, etc to go back to some kind of way of living off the land with no electricity, no HVAC, killing your own food, etc

Sorry, I forgot, I made a crack about the shortcomings of a racial group that wasn't white. Of course that was going to derail this whole thing.

Now there's where it gets confusing. Is there Baptist Hell next to Catholic Hell next to, I would guess, Episcopalian Hell, all with their own different sections, based on what each sect of Christianity teaches? So now Baptist and Catholic Hells have these new "Fucking up the Earth" sections, and Episcopalian Hell wouldn't? Do they share sections of their Hells about the sins they agree on?
This is really complex, yo.

Last year, the Catholic church spent $526 million in settling sex-abuse cases.

That would've bought a lot of carbon credits.

maybe global warming is a natural phenomenon caused by God. this is not the first time the earth's climate has changed and believe it or not, it was changing before man existed.

Look, there are no different sections of hell. Dantes Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso are not gospel. All the denominational crap is horseshit in my opinion. Everything a Christian needs is in the New Testament. What is hell? It's eternal seperation from God and His love. That's it. I know from your posts that you're a Wicca, so I get you and Christianity probably don't get along. But please don't mock my faith. I'm not mocking yours.

when climates change at rates like they are now, mass extinctions happen. and it was not changing like this before humans.

^^uh, species are going extinct at an alarming rate.

and just because it hasn't affected the animals you learned about in preschool doesn't mean it isn't happening, as you are trying to imply.

and just because global mean temp goes up a degree and a half over the last 100 years doesn't mean your doom and gloom scenario of "mass extinctions happen" is coming to fruition...its a prediction

besides, 99% of species that ever lived on earth are already extinct...why must you feel the need to use more scare tactics?

and for all the anthropogenic global warming proponents....congrats...you have Southern Baptist leaders on your side...the same people you love to hate and make fun of because of their devout overboard christianity...yeah THEY are on your side...great way to lend some credibility to climate change!

mass extinctions are ALREADY HAPPENING. This is not a prediction.

Quote :

it's not supposed to be a scare tactic. actually, probably 99.9% of species are extinct. there has also been life on earth for billions of years.

The only mass extinctions that are ALREADY HAPPENING are Holocene extinctions which started long before humans started emitting CO2 with machines...the mass extinctions you are probably referring to are the PREDICTED extinctions that MIGHT occur over the next 100 years

Quote :
"hitler believed in gravity."

you obviously missed the point...all the science people who wanted to (and did...and still do) completely rag on any christians are now like "oh ok look now they believe"...science folks were happy to shoot down ANY credibility conservative christians like southern baptists ever had on ANY subject...just refute anything they said by pointing out that they are dumb for believing the bible word for word...but now that they finally AGREE...well hello, welcome aboard!

and speaking of life being on this planet for billions of years, i know life has been on this planet for billions of years...unfortunately your new found anthro climate change proponents only think the planet goes back about 6,000 years....now how in the world could someone who only believed in the last 6,000 years of data even have enough long term data to deduce some kind of human influenced climate change over the last 100 years?

Mass extinctions don't occur over night. It's a proven fact that species are dying off faster now than they have before humans had a large impact on the planet. A fact you choose to ignore...

"It's a proven fact that species are dying off faster now than they have before humans had a large impact on the planet"

thats complete and utter bullshit...wow you just talk out of your ass when it sounds good dont you

The K/T extinction event 70 million years ago for example killed off half the current species on Earth...without any human impact...and you want to tell me its a "proven fact" that species are dying off faster NOW than ever before humans had an impact? you're completely full of shit

first of all, you said there was a current mass extinction bigger than any other mass extinction before humans which is not true

and secondly, the virtual unanimity is a PREDICTION...the PREDICTION is that many species could die over the next 100 years if warming continues...if you could simply produce some type of data or evidence that shows this current mass extinction you'd have a lot better leg to stand on

iirc, a couple hundred species have become extinct over the last couple hundred years, and most of those were due to human destruction of habitat, ie deforestation, filling in wetlands, etc...a couple hundred of the tens of thousands of species on the planet...but not only have conservation efforts been greatly increased over the last 40 years, these extinctions are due to direct human destruction of habitat...most are not due to having too much CO2 in their atmosphere to breathe, or having temperatures too hot for them to survive

so like i said, this doomsday mass extinction you guys keep referring to is a prediction of a worst case scenario in the future

"At least 15 species have gone extinct in the past 20 years"

that goes along with my "a couple hundred species have gone extinct over the last couple hundred years"

and of the roughly 57,000 species in this graph about 5,000 are listed as threatened

threatened.......not endangered, but threatened.....threatened means that if conditions dont improve these species have the potential to become endangered and then extinct...but like i mentioned, conservation has gone up a lot in the last 40 years or so...in fact, you guys are quick to blame humans for causing all of these species to possibly go extinct in the future...how about giving humans credit for raising awareness since the 1970s of threatened and endangered species so we can preserve them...if not there would be more extinct species

but regardless, these extinction predictions are based on destroying habitat and resources through building and expanding civilization into the wilderness...they are not becoming threatened and in danger of extinction from higher temperatures or increased co2 or anything you can relate to climate change
