I believe this is the name of the comedy bar downtown, near City Limits...is it good? I've heard some stuff about it, like specials or something during the week.

goodnites is an excellent comedy club. they have decent shows during the week with mostly local talent, wednesday is $10 fajita/ $10 margarita (pitcher) day. buying either gets you free admission to a show of locals. they also bring in some pretty well known talent several times throughout the year, jeff dunnham, john reep, jimmie "jj" walker, john witherspoon, lavelle crawford, bruce bruce, christopher titus, and that's definitely been in the last 10 months or so. Some major names have come through when they were getting established, like dave chapelle and larry the cable guy. seeing these guys for <$25 is a steal, IMO. if you're into standup its definitely worth checking out.

For someone who has lived in two decent "cities" since leaving Raleigh that have ZERO good comedy clubs....Go see stand-ups at Charlie Goodnights as much as possible while you are there. I love stand-up comedy and probably went to CG's about once every few months when a big act would come through. It really is a great comedy club. Look at their calendar and look up the names of their acts and try to find some clips on the internet. If you like a few of their jokes...then go see them play.

It's now known as Goodnight's Comedy Club (they won't let you on stage for two months if you mess that up). It's not as good as it was in the 90's, but that's true for about 90% of comedy clubs. About 80% of their headliners are washed up acts from the 80's but they get a couple of good comics every now and then. For a couple of years, they had the best open-mic talent pool in the country, outside of New York and LA. Even then, the Southern Fried comics gave the big cities a run for their money. The food does suck. On the plus side, so do the waitresses. As far as the March lineup, DL Hughley is definitely worth seeing, David Brenner's awesome, Michael Winslow is alright. The rest of the comics are stupid, imo.
