I've been searching high and low since I got to NCSU this semester for anybody else who is in love with this band like I am, and I've found nobody. Not even anyone who remotely knows who the band is. For anyone who doesn't know, they're a post-rock experimental-ish band from Iceland. All of their songs are in Icelandic, but they put out music that I'm pretty sure is the music of angels. It's absolutely life altering.Anyway, just looking for any other avid Sigur Rós fans out there to share my interest... if you don't like Sigur Rós, let me know if you like any of these other bands. I like discussing good music with fans of good music.Arcade FireColdplayThe Flaming LipsKeaneKlaxonsModest MouseMuseMute MathOf MontrealRadioheadRed Hot Chili PeppersSufjan Stevens

i think youll find lots of people who listen to a lot of those bands in this section.I am a huge Sigur Rós fanboy. got all the albums, the dvd etc etc.

Thanks for the heads-up, young college indie rock fan.
2/27/2008 5:33:43 PM
love sigur ros, saw them in durham when they played. their new dvd 'heima' is beautifully shot. also, most of their songs are hopelandic, a language they invented.
2/27/2008 5:34:10 PM
All of their songs aren't in Icelandic. Some of them are in Hopelandish.Either way, they make good records...that never cease to put me to sleep.
2/27/2008 5:34:30 PM
Funny you would mention Heima...I've been e-mailing the VP of Marketing over at Sigur Rós' label, and they're interested in doing a Heima screening at NCSU assuming there would be enough interest. It'd be free of charge, kind of a DIY thing, but if you guys would be interested I can try to start forward with setting up a date.

I'm a big fan of Sigur Ros for a couple of years. I have driven to DC to see them and made it a point to plan a Boston trip so I could catch at the Berkley School of Music. It is great chill music.
2/27/2008 6:14:55 PM
Sigur who? That sounds like a band that not everybody in the world has heard of.
2/27/2008 6:15:09 PM
I ended a sentence with a preposition.
2/27/2008 6:17:52 PM
Did anyone say that everybody in the world had heard of them?I'm so confused.
2/27/2008 6:18:52 PM
I remember reading the Ágætis byrjun review in The Technician freshman year. I was too big a fan of GYBE! at that time to get into Sigur Ros like I am now.
2/27/2008 6:24:51 PM
i have never heard of any of those bands you listed other than Coldplay and RHCP. weird music is for fags
2/27/2008 6:41:17 PM
^^hahaha. i wrote that review. man i was so full of shit then.
2/27/2008 6:51:01 PM
^^...you haven't heard of Radiohead or Modest Mouse? Have you been living under a fucking rock? But yeah, Sigur Ros is awesome. You aren't alone.[Edited on February 27, 2008 at 6:57 PM. Reason : the word gullible isn't in the dictionary...]
2/27/2008 6:54:01 PM
I liked them, but there isn't a tremendous amount of variety between songs and I got bored with them kinda quickly.
2/27/2008 6:54:11 PM
Fun fact:The concept of Hopelandic is "bullshit" according to Birgisson. He's just singing gibberish.
2/27/2008 6:58:30 PM
^^ Haha, yeah, I saw that interview with NPR.

2/27/2008 7:03:52 PM
^^ I was interviewed on NPR?
2/27/2008 7:15:37 PM
^Probably in your sleep. That's how most interviews on NPR go.

BRB. I need to have a word with my agent.

Whoops. Didn't realize I put two ^s in there. I was referring to elduderino.

love em.
2/27/2008 10:05:19 PM
^^^ Well, I haven't really become great friends with anyone here at State since I started. All my friends I knew before NCSU love the same types of music, but it's been hard for me to get to know anyone at NCSU whose favorite artists aren't Fall Out Boy, Rascall Flatts (sp?), or some horrid pseudo-Metal band. That's why I really wanna go to Chapel Hill in the fall - I know this kind of subculture exists here at NCSU, but it's harder to find than at Chapel Hill. What can I say, I'm lazy.[Edited on February 27, 2008 at 10:09 PM. Reason : .]

There's an interview on YouTube with them on NPR and it's the most awkward interview ever. The part where Jonsi says it's total bullshit is the only redeeming part.

2/27/2008 10:27:24 PM
I hear the Chapel Hill subculture is all up in some Alter Bridge.

Love sigur ros. Saw them in NYC with Radiohead and the Merce Cunningham dance company. Was like on the 5th row! The 2 bands alternated sets playing improv for the dance company. Was crazy rediculous.Radiohead, Sigur ros and MC dance company all under one roof was kinda rediculous. Got to meet a couple people from Sigur Ros, although no one from Radiohead came out during intermission. This was back in highschool though. [Edited on February 28, 2008 at 12:43 AM. Reason : ..]

This topic makes me laugh.Yes, I know it's mine.
2/28/2008 2:28:31 AM
is it weird that the movie vanilla sky introduced me to this band?that movie has a tremendous soundtrack
2/28/2008 11:12:59 AM
I always thought Crowe used the live performance from the Kilbourne Show since that song hadn't been recorded in a studio yet. But it turns out it was just some random performance in Europe.
2/28/2008 11:51:41 AM
^^ Nah, that's not weird, that's how I found out about them too. I'm ashamed I didn't know about them earlier.
2/28/2008 12:29:01 PM
Sigur Ros are great. I'm still pissed I had to miss their show in Durham @ Carolina Theatre a few years back.
2/28/2008 12:32:36 PM
^ same. that and missing the get up kids in chapel hill my freshman year when i had a free ticket but had to study for an exam that i bombed anyways. i told myself 'theyll come through again' of course they broke up like a year later.looking back i should have just gone.
2/28/2008 12:37:39 PM
at the carolina show, there were 4 people asleep just in the one row in front of me[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 12:57 PM. Reason : i was enthralled though]
2/28/2008 12:56:46 PM
I actually dont think id mind paying to sleep to them live haha. too bad you cant record dreams.

2/28/2008 1:16:59 PM
haha
2/28/2008 1:25:06 PM
Yeah, they are pretty good.I like a few of their songs a whole lot, Saeglopur is probably my favorite, but many of them sound so similar that I can't listen to more than a few in a row.I still haven't figured out why it's all right for indie groups to sound the same in all their songs, but not ok for mainstream artists.
2/28/2008 3:40:41 PM
i love sigur ros. im not super into what you are probably referring to as 'indie', but i will say there is a huge difference in having a similar sound in all your songs and having the exact same song structure in every single one of your songs and then beyond that using the exact same keys/chords in all your songs.i mean you can literally predict the song structure instantly of 90% of the bands played on commercial radio. even worse, when a band tries to break out of that mold its usually even more disastrous. see linkin park. their songs have nearly identical structures, builds, etc. EXTREMELY predictable vocal patterns, guitarwork and everything. and, while all of their stuff is terrible imo, they sink to a new low when they try and think 'outside the LP box' like the last 2 singles they have had.and PS its not always about having your songs sound that much different either. a song doesnt have to be complex to be a good song. at that point it comes down to personal preference i guess. even tho i would have to argue certain people definitely have a more musically inclined personal preference. and the best way i can think to describe that is that there are bands that i can identify that write good music that i dont care to listen too that often such as a band like Arcade Fire who writes infinitely better music than most commercial bands, but i dont particularly like them.[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 4:00 PM.
