A friend from high school has kept in touch with me and has asked me what we Americans have to say about the Olypics being held in Beijing. She says the Japanese are worried about the food quality (poisoning, malnutrition - past games have ended with foul play and players went to the hospital). She says the Japanese players couldn't bring their own food and medicine into China, either. Seeing as how I have little imput myself on the matter and the topic search didn't turn up but a few posts here, I figured I'd start a new thread for those who do have an opinion to let it rip.

SOME OF YOU know SO MUCH that you should be teachers. it's a shame to see such knowledge go to waste on the wolfweb, when it could be going to corrupt our kids minds and make them hate their country at age 5 as for this american's POV:doesn't matter to me, i dont remember ever seeing much about the culture of the place where the games were held. and since they're all events that have international rules and courts and balls and lines and etc etc etc, then it all kinda looks the same. does the hosting country get to throw in an event that reflects its culture or anything, am i missing something?if not, its all the same shit, just in different places. only matters to the people who can go. which, actually, i'd love to go, but it seems like it takes weeks and thats a lot of vacation, and i bet every hotel within 100 miles has been booked since they announced the locationso i'm guessing it easily would cost thousands to go out there for 2 weeks and see the events you wanted to (assuming you could even watch them all since it seems they happen at the same time i think)so long story short, i think the only way it matters is if you actually go, and i think only retired people have a realistic opportunity at going and being able to enjoy it to the fullest.
