...what should I use instead? Got caught by the ISP getting Vice City via torrent, so I'm hesitant to try doing any torrenting again. What else is out there?

nah they have a three strike policy. First strike is, "we got a letter from such and such, we'll turn your service back on now, just don't do it again."MetroCast

mIRC

Oh man, I used to use mIRC about six years ago...I'll be damned if any of my old frequent warez servers are still up...or if I can remember how to connect to them.

i didn't know limewire even did torrentsi thought that you were pretty much safe on limewire as long as you set available uploads to "zero"
2/24/2008 2:34:17 AM
run Frostwire on the GnuTella network, and set your uploads to zero. if you're worried about getting marked as a leecher, run a cron job to automatically move your completed downloads to a non-shared folder...i mean, not that i do any downloading ... that's just what i've heard.

i still sometimes fire up limewire for individual songs legal files i may need, but it's pretty much dead and flooded with spam/virusesWhat I don't like is that MSJ has been down for months ]
2/24/2008 12:14:14 PM
soulseek for individual songs legal files. For torrents, use rc4 encryption.
2/24/2008 12:39:52 PM
is there any working version of mytunes or similar still out there
2/24/2008 2:26:53 PM
I only use LimeWire to download my porn, or individual songs.

peer guardian ftw.http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

peer guardian for teh noobsNone of that shit will save you from getting caught. Torrents are a great way for the MPAA/RIAA to catch you. Encryption wont help. Private trackers wont help. if they want you, they can scrape the tracker and you are done. End of story.Newsgroups are about the only way to get stuff and not get caught. But even then you're putting your faith in the company that owns that news server. The best way to not get caught is to buy the shit.[Edited on February 25, 2008 at 9:48 AM. Reason : .]

^^ yeah, shaggy is right.you can get away with torrents only because you're gambling on two premises: (1) hoping they wont notice you, and (2) hoping that your ISP isnt prone to snitch.im fairly secure with my ISP (Comcast is a behemoth) and in Seattle we have additional laws protecting consumer privacy. that's still no guarantee they wouldn't drop a dime if the RIAA or MPAA lines up their legal guns. what (i think) protects me most is that i'm extremely small potatoes in a huge potato field. i keep my shared folder empty so theres very little upload traffic coming out of it.if you're on a University network, or with some small mom-and-pop ISP, or attached to some government organization... i would NOT use torrents at all. you are much likely to get snitched out if/when the RIAA comes a-knockin'
