I think we're going to win the World Series, I really do- Ryan DempsterPretty Gavin Grantish of him. That motherfucker probably jinxed the entire season, but is it possible this is the year to break the 100 year curse? The cubs will be looking to build on the success they found last year finally making a post season appearance since the 2003 season. The cubs won 85 games last year, and I think if they can push this number into the 90s in the regular season then I think they get past the divisional series in the playoffs and who really knows from there.GO CUBBIES!
2/21/2008 1:54:24 PM
Milwaukee will take the division
2/21/2008 2:13:23 PM
Fukudome is going to drop some f-bombs into the bleachers
2/21/2008 2:35:55 PM
The Cubs will probably be worse than the Brewers, but they're the Brewers so they could screw it up just like the Cubs can. Maybe the Astros will win the central.. but for now I'd say the Brewers have to be the best team in the central
2/21/2008 2:47:31 PM
change wrigley to the fuku-dome
2/22/2008 2:49:18 AM
We need better middle infielders. Not sure if the Brian Roberts thing is going to happen. Kerry Wood at closer? I would rather have Marmol do it.
2/22/2008 10:12:50 AM
Thank you for starting the 2008 thread. I was going to wait until the first split-squad game.GO CUBS GO!^ Marmol deserves it after last year, but I'll be interested to see what Wood can do with a full spring training.
2/22/2008 10:24:07 AM
The Cubs really wanted to move Matt Murton in the off season, and the Roberts trade was their best bet, but Andy McPhail really loves Roberts, and wouldn't let him go. From everything I have read, the deal isn't dead yet, but it does not have a very strong pulse. Plus I think Pinella is happy with Derosa at second. It looks like Marmol, Wood, and Bob Howry are battling it out this spring to see who is going to be the closer. Marmol looked unhittable many times last year, and I have to think he is the frontrunner for the job, but it will be interesting to see what a healthy Kerry Wood can do.
2/22/2008 11:45:05 AM
whoever wins the closer role, marmol or wood, the other will be the set-up man so i think the late inning pitching will be strong.
2/22/2008 1:37:58 PM
Soriano's back for the home game today Split squad vs. Arizona (first preseason game on WGN!) and @ Oakland. Both at 3 EST.[Edited on March 8, 2008 at 11:38 AM. Reason : GO CUBS]
3/8/2008 11:33:49 AM
Fuk-u-do-meThe Cubs have a chance at the division if Lee and Soriano can return to their AllStar forms.
3/8/2008 1:18:28 PM
4-1 .. watched the earlier innings when we scored a couple runs, they looked pretty solid for this early.
3/8/2008 7:16:07 PM
Wood named closer, marmol and howry set up. liebler to bullpenhttp://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/news/story?id=33095061. z2. lilly3. dempster4. hill5. marquis
3/24/2008 2:22:02 PM
interesting rotation - not sure what to make of dempster but i'm hoping for the besti'd love to get off to a nice start this year - we really should be able to cruise along in the division if we stay healthy and some of the stars return to form
3/24/2008 6:21:56 PM
I like the RLRLR rotation. And that Lieber will be in the 'pen for any early exits (or as insurance for any injuries). I hope Wood does well and can stay healthy
3/24/2008 6:28:24 PM
I <3 Marmol
3/24/2008 11:07:38 PM

3/29/2008 9:03:29 PM
I am not that much of a baseball fan but I have always considered the Cubs my team ever since playing as the cubs in the little leagues when I was younger. I have always wanted to go to Chicago, so I could see a game at Wrigley Park.
3/29/2008 9:08:00 PM
Wrigley Field... Not Wrigley Park I think I've been there for a half-dozen baseball games, great atmosphere
3/29/2008 9:11:52 PM
^^and you are the reason that the chicago cubs and wrigley field are tourist favorites. [Edited on March 29, 2008 at 9:12 PM. Reason : ..]
3/29/2008 9:12:01 PM
hey i admitted I was a band wagoner and not a diehard. I knew it was Wrigley Field, that was just a dumb mistake.
3/29/2008 9:16:02 PM
^ That's fine. Just be prepared to lose a few years off of your life if you start to follow them more. Cubs win today 4-2 to finish the spring at 0.500Sheets (MIL) vs Zambrano (CHC): 2:20p EDT Monday on WGN and ESPN2
3/29/2008 11:42:14 PM

4/6/2008 2:25:59 PM
Big Z gets his first W. Nice to see Soriano get his first homer, as well. I love how Yahoo Fantasy Sports was telling me that Derrek Lee might not be good until next month. 6-for-7 this weekend with two home runs.First road trip of the year: Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this week. Go Cubs go!
4/6/2008 11:08:53 PM
bttt for an afternoon game against the Pirates ... hopefully they don't get blown out by 7 runs like yesterday.
4/18/2008 2:27:52 PM
I scheduled a vacation to D.C. back in January/February and finally got around to see who the Nats/O's were playing and was surprised to see the Cubs on the schedule for the Nats. This will be the first time in 14 years I've gotten to see them live.
