What I don't get is why NOW you choose to finally disown the GOP.

I mean, I am still registered GOP, but have been extremely disappointed with the party for years and really only loosely affiliate myself with them (and that's only because there's nowhere else to go...I'm even more at odds with the Democrats, and big-"L" Libertarians are crazier than hell and have no chance whatsoever, anyway). There are at least a handful of Republicans that I like and approve of.

I don't see that anything's gotten worse lately than it has been since about the time you've even been able to vote, though. If anything, I think with the arrival of McCain to the Presidential frontrunner status, there is movement back towards at least some semblance of, well, Republicanism.
