I think the irony is lost here, because you need to notice there are some quite shitty movies that have made their list. Off the top of my head...armageddonthe rockslackerand others...I think it's more about compiling special editions/definitive editons rather than the quality of the movie...

George Washington is probably the worst film on there.The laserdisc series they had was more contemporary, and included things like Trainspotting and Menace II Society. Since they moved over to DVD the focus has been more on Art House shit like "GW". That movie is god-awful. Was made locally by a grad of School of the Arts...
