OH WE BACK!!!1
6/15/2008 1:28:35 AM
I'm really looking forward to this. For me it's "The Spirit" and "Punisher: War Zone" this December. I don't think I've ever been so excited to see two movies in December before.

this was released a few weeks ago...http://www.cinematical.com/2008/05/31/frank-miller-promises-the-spirit-wont-be-a-return-to-sin-cit/

Couple trailers ...http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/thespirit/http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/4842.asp

hopefully it's infinitely more eisner than miller
7/18/2008 11:34:14 PM
that's been my concern ...
7/18/2008 11:38:03 PM
Don't count on it. Screenplay by Frank Miller. It would be different if he put his name on something, got paid, and was never allowed near it.
7/19/2008 10:13:23 AM
yeah.yeah.the more i think about sin city, the more i know miller/rodriguez completely missed the point...and the full trailer doesn't make me feel any better about this ]
7/19/2008 10:13:32 AM
everytime i tried to read the comic i got bored with it and never finished
7/19/2008 11:40:56 AM
^^ how can you miss the point on something that you wrote?
7/19/2008 11:52:42 AM
So I've talked to a whole buttload of people who are absolutely flummoxed by the trailer for The Spirit. Does anyone know anything about the comics? What's the deal with the hypersexualized presentation?
7/20/2008 5:26:37 PM
the spirit had a ton of femme fatales and so far that's what they seem to be playing up because boobies put horndogs in seatssome of the women in the spirit were some of the earliest empowered female characters in the genrei'm sure miller will make sure to reduce them all to whores as his more recent work suggestshe seems to have gone ultra sour in the past couple years (maybe due to his divorce to lynn varley...who knows) and borders on woman-hating[Edited on July 20, 2008 at 9:10 PM. I grew up reading my dad's copies of "The Spirit". This does not feel anything like it. I saw the teaser and got my hopes up. Just saw the theatrical trailer and all I can think is "Sin City". Graphics look awesome, but I also never read "Sin City".This is a different case; and I feel let down.

^ Ooo--that's cool-looking! Good post!

i always like it when a poster can take something familiar and twist it just enough to make it applygood times

I can't take Samuel L seriously anymore.

Haven't seen mutton chops that sweet since Pulp Fiction.

^ That's precisely the one I was referring to, and it's the only one that feels like a film instead of an exercise in style.
12/8/2008 4:03:55 PM
I really want to see this movie.
12/8/2008 8:27:38 PM
There's a six-page rant on AICN today proclaiming this the worst movie ever made.
12/15/2008 7:21:49 PM
well at least they're not exaggerating or anything
12/15/2008 7:39:15 PM
Basically says that the acting is horrendous outside of Eva Mendes and that while it's not Frank Miller's fault that he has no business directing a film, he still has no business directing a film (which, incidentally, is what I said earlier).rant here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39450and six scenes here: http://www.blackfilm.com/20081211/features/thespiritspecial.shtml ]

even though it was funny, that review makes me sad.

no surprises here, always looked incredibly shitty

it was pretty shitty source material to begin withi mean, you can only polish a turd so much
12/16/2008 7:45:00 AM
When I first saw previews for this, I got it confused with The Shadow. Unfortunately there will be no clouding of men's minds, so I probably won't be seeing it.
12/16/2008 10:34:38 AM
An actual AICN contributor, rather than a reader, has a similar response today:http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39470Anyway, I know I'm not the only one to say that Frank Miller has no business directing a film, but I thought Sin City was mostly a bore because the idea of going shot-for-shot from a static medium to a moving one is fundamentally flawed and everyone yelled at me...so I'm chirping more about this. ]
12/16/2008 1:25:46 PM
i wouldn't have yelled at you if I were here when that came out, fwiw
12/16/2008 10:34:22 PM
Man I swear to god if they fuck up ronin, then I'm going to flip shit.
12/18/2008 7:26:44 PM
I think Ronin is too ethereal to make into a movie, but I thought that about Slaughterhouse-Five, too.

I just saw this movie. I really loved it. There is such variety in it that made me fall in love with it minute by minute. A lot of REALLY good looking women and Gabriel Macht is a stone cold fox.Scarlett Johansson actually did a phenomenal job in it. She got a chance to break away from her regular whiny lifeless character. I would recommend you going to see it.

Well I saw a movie poster for The Spirit with a guy lighting a cigar with his flamethrower, so it looks promising.
