Strange digs.... The right/rear brake seems to be randomly locking up on the 97 Acura 3.0cl....Randomly locks up and doesn't like to unlock- Doesn't make a difference whether it has been driven a while or cold- Started up yesterday, drove about 40 miles, got gas, went to leave, and the tire straight up dragged behind.Shut the car off and restarted about 3 times and if unlocked and was fine-Little while ago went to pull out of driveway after not driving it in hours and it was the same shit- as if the ebrake was engaged. ?

E-brake cable is frozen or the caliper is sticking. My money is on the caliper. Dont use the e-brake and see if it happens again.Take it to someone who knows what the fuck they are doing.oh andTry the phone book.

caliper sticking. rebuild or replace both rears.i don't know about your car specifically, but for the majority of newer stuff you can get new loaded calipers for not much more than the cost and extra effort of rebuilding what you've got.

dont you work at a dealership? or sell cars?you should be able to find someone to knock this out cheap. if you have any knowledge, you can do it yourself if you just get another caliper.

^^^haha- I know how retarded that sounds but i figured i would mention at least.... I turned the car of and restarted it.... then got pissed and shut it off again and walked around calling for a ride because i didn't wanna drive it- Couldn't get ahold of the g/f, so got back in and restarted, etc...just seemed strange that in a matter of 5 minutes it was fine again- It is super random the way it sticks as it will be fine, catch while driving, and then be normal again in a brief period of time-however, right now it is fucked up and has been for a few hours-^^^^I used to run a dealership back in NY- Just recently moved back down here-Not sure what to do with it at the moment- It is parked in my drive on a rediculous slope, i don't really have any place right here to jack it up and fuck with it myself, nor do i want to drive it any great distance to have someone else fix.^^ god damn u and the phone book lol

Was your tire seriously dragging and not moving? Thats freaking crazy. I had the parking brake caliper freeze up on me when I was in Florida on spring break a few years back (i didn't drive the car all week), but the wheel would still turn. After smelling burning brakes for a few miles I realized what the problem was, but wasn't sure what to do so I just kept on driving. I didn't do the math in my head and realize that this would lead to the overheating of the entire brake system. Of course I found this out when my foot went to the floor and I had to slow down via engine braking and the parking brake.

everyone is so adamant about the caliper stickingbut when it happened to me, the cable to the driver-side rear brake was seized up
2/7/2008 2:44:02 PM
either that, or its kinked somwhere along the underbody. which doesnt happen much unless the car has been previously hit around there.

^yep. also, since the cables aren't completely independent it's unlikely. the majority of the time if it's the cable or other e-brake component it's going to affect both wheels.^^^the wheel being completely locked up is another indication it's probably the caliper piston sticking. while it doesn't really take much force to lock up a rear wheel (we all know about e-brake slides, lol) it usually takes more than just the mechanical pressure of an e-brake cable/assembly hanging.lastly, he didn't make any mention of it only happening right after he releases the e-brake. only that it's locking up "as if" the e-brake was engaged, which tells me he's not even using it.

this is one of those things that if any one of us just went to look at the car, jack it up, it would take probably 5 minutes or less to really diagnose.or we could do it over the internet.

yeah, i prefer to just sit around and speculate.
