http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2008/02/04/video-from-sunday/How about a couple of the following:(1) When Duke visits and the starting lineups are being announced, the entire student section should all exaggerate a flop and fall as far to the floor as they can while flailing their arms and making a noise like they just got run over. They should do this for each and every Duke player announced and then have something extra special planned for Paulus.[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 1:39 PM. Reason : change]

He's a flopper?He is handchecking?Keep it simple..... Flop....Flop.....Flop or Hands......Hands......Hands
2/4/2008 1:32:51 PM
ehhh... i don't think so.
2/4/2008 1:48:32 PM
I can only imagine the entire student section chanting "He is Handchecking" in unison

i don't really get why they're bashing the bouncing. We're any of them at the game? The unified thud bounces were GREAT. plus they argue that bouncing causes people to cheer softer/quieter... although I think the sight of a lot of bouncing people encourages more fans to participate in yelling/noise/distraction activities.
2/4/2008 2:48:28 PM
Their main argument is that it is a copy of what the Duke student section does and we shouldn't copy that.
2/4/2008 2:56:15 PM
SFN I got sick of reading about how the nnnn cccc state cheer is too redneck
2/4/2008 2:59:10 PM
But I think the other parts of it are spot on. All we do it chant "Wolfpack," "Woooolf-Paaaack," "Let's go Wolfpack," "Here we go Wolfpack, here we go," and "Defense." But most of the time all we do is yell on defense. Then the cheerleaders are off doing their cheers that nobody would be caught dead chanting apparently. Basically you have 2 or 3 chants going on at once. I think they are bashing us for being unoriginal, not showing up, not getting into the players' heads, trying to copy Duke, and not having the crazy fans along the court. They handed out cheer sheets like "everyone" has been begging for and they didn't even use them! I don't know what else its' gonna take to start these chants or get ideas for chants, but I guess TWW is a good place to start...along with that Facebook group they've tried to start.

2/4/2008 3:09:20 PM
And on top of that, can you guys learn and sing all the words to Red and White and the alma mater?? All I hear is "Go to hell Carolina!," "Go State!," and "Nnnn Ccc Staaaaaate!"
2/4/2008 3:20:46 PM
there is nothing gayer than orchestrated cheering
2/4/2008 3:23:03 PM
something i would love to see started is the whole thing where when the other team is shooting free throws everyone moves their arms from one side to the other right when they go to shoot.that looks way more distracting than just waving arms.
2/4/2008 3:33:07 PM
i think it'd be awesome if we could do the same thing but with alternating rows jumping

they frame it like duke invented the home court advantage or some shit.
2/4/2008 4:09:19 PM
Why is the jumping in unison BOOM....pause.....BOOM....pause....BOOM copying Duke? They just jump up and down fast in unison, or try.It sounded great, was really loud, and definitely got the atmosphere of the whole place up there. And I wasn't one of the ones doing it, for the record...I was just there to witness it from across the way.
2/4/2008 4:14:14 PM
Most of you dont realize that Cameron was built by the same design as Reynolds. They added a few hundred extra seats in Reynolds though. If you go to games in Reynolds; its much much much louder than the RBC. The floor and balcony literally shake when that place gets rockin'. You cant sit down cause you will start to bounce in your seat. I wish state would go back to that atmosphere.....dont we have like an 85% win rate there?
2/4/2008 4:53:00 PM
of course it was gonna be louder with a full stadium every time and a smaller environmentless the RBC burning down we aren't gonna be going back to Reynolds as we know it everand that article does make some good points, some of the cheers a few years ago were genius but i haven't heard anything last year or this year that was really good. and i wish we'd go back to booing/screaming/whatever every time a certain player has the ball, it was done a few years ago. i thought it worked decently.. and even if it didn't, it was still cool[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 5:01 PM. I would pay a lot of money to see the entire student section fall down in unison when Paulus is announced. I would also pay a lot of money to hear them chant "puuuuuuuuuu-sy, puuuuuuu-sy, puuuuuuuu-sy" when he's at the free throw line, or every time he has the ball.
2/4/2008 5:20:06 PM
for some reason i bet that'd give us bad press
2/4/2008 5:24:00 PM
we can still "flop"
2/4/2008 5:25:54 PM
everyone falling down really would be incredible. We also need a song to sing or the band to play something whenever an opponent gets there 5th foul
2/4/2008 5:30:04 PM
yea the everyone falling down thing, for just Paulus, would be hilarious and to my knowledge no one's ever done thatcan we get them to show "the flop" on the video board in slow motion[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 5:47 PM. Reason : ]

I think understanding the game is the most important part of being a "good" fan.Elaborate, obnoxious cheers aren't that great. Duke games at home are almost unwatchable cause the fans are always chanting something very loudly. And it doesn't matter how creative they are. You can have 50 different creative, unique cheers, but they'll still end up sounding canned and generic. Soulless, if you will.A few classic chants plus some spontaneous and emotional cheers is really all we need. You know, because most of us are actually watching the game, not waiting on our section's cue.The attention should be on the players, not the fans. We're there to spectate, not perform. That fact is one of the reasons why Duke's atmosphere is wholly undesirable. There is something to be said for mindless fans who don't understand the game, but I'd prefer that something not be said about State. And that thing that Duke does where their fans are so close that they can practically reach out and touch the players...that's fucked up and everyone knows it.
2/4/2008 5:53:30 PM
They should pass these out at the gate for the Duke game (I'm not sure any one would get it though)
2/4/2008 5:55:34 PM
I suggest we make a thread with suggestions for games, get a good majority of people to vote on what they like the best, then submit them to the technician for handout during games. Since comedians are a dime a dozen on here, it should work fairly well.
2/4/2008 5:57:56 PM
^^^ You have absolutely no understanding of the home court advantage. We used to be able to reach out and practically touch the players, too. ]
2/4/2008 5:58:59 PM
I know we all are paying attention to the games like the good fans of the game we are, but we are playing this game, too. We have to be the 6th man out there, but that doesn't mean we have to have our whole game scripted with an endless amount of cheers. Even the most generic of cheers yelled a few times can get under players' skin. I like the idea of sending the ideas to the Technician for gameday. Hopefully they'll start up something like that.
2/4/2008 6:03:12 PM
^^^ Woah, a serious suggestion/comment?sounds good[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 6:04 PM. Reason : ]
2/4/2008 6:04:35 PM
I just cuss up a storm at the players if I can close enough.you can usually get their attention by just doing that all game
2/4/2008 6:05:59 PM
For the Duke game at least, a chant geared towards the refs seems best, esp. if there is an early flop. For UNC, someone should loudly point out that Hansbrough has a tendency to lose a contact. Just seems if the refs hear FLOP enough they might actually call it. How awesome would it be to actually see a dookie T'd up for flopping?
2/4/2008 6:07:46 PM
for unc, everyone bring bigass grandma magnifying glasses and wave them around when hansblo loses his
2/4/2008 6:08:53 PM
hahaha that'd be great. unless he didn't lose one that game.
2/4/2008 6:10:15 PM
I think the idea of all the students falling down when they introduce Paulus would be awesome. It is original, and it will make the news/sports radio/youtube.
2/4/2008 6:10:47 PM
he ALWAYS loses onebut if he didnt it can be used to wave at refs' bad calls and stuff ... i dunno
2/4/2008 6:12:39 PM
Yeah but where would everyone "flop" to without getting hurt? Sounds like a good opportunity for some dork to get his first feel of boob.
2/4/2008 6:13:54 PM
I guess just flail your arms and fall straight down??
2/4/2008 6:14:43 PM
2/4/2008 6:15:36 PM
i think the same effect would be if everyone quickly bent down or squatted

we have this discussion every year about how we need to have better cohesiveness as a student section with cheers, and every year we have something about about 1/4 of the students do what they're supposed to and everyone else just stands around watching.I'd love for there to be unanimous cheers and stuff, but honestly, its gonna have to come from SWPC, and its gonna have to be made known well before the game.
2/4/2008 6:30:40 PM
2/4/2008 6:36:39 PM
^^It's really easy to do- I did it for two years at UCLA. Print out one page of "Dirt" on opponents and leave on every student seat prior to the game. Give simple instructions like "When Paulus is at the line, flop when he shoots." etc.
2/4/2008 6:41:17 PM
cheer sheets are a good idea. they should be good cheers though (unlike what was given to us at the wake forest game).and everyone flopping when paulus is at the line is a great idea. not sure the students would actually be determined enough to coordinate synchronized flopping, but even just everyone randomly dropping in their seats, while yelping and flailing their arms about would be clever.
