Wanted to check the general consensus of whether or not this was offensive.Summary: - At super bowl party with friends and some strangers with my girlfriend of 1 year.- I was talking about Gisele (a supermodel) and told my girlfriend the following: "Ok, earmuffs honey.......That Gisele chick is a goddess. I wish I was Tom Brady, etc....blah blah."She gets pissed, especially about "earmuffs".Am I the asshole, or is she a whiny bitch for getting angry about my attempt at humor?
2/4/2008 11:17:05 AM
well you just told her she was ugly
2/4/2008 11:18:20 AM
I think she was offended by your weaksauce attempt at humor
2/4/2008 11:19:10 AM
this is why you don't let girls come to superbowl parties
2/4/2008 11:19:21 AM
eh, the guys thing is your gf isnt as hot as giselle, durrr, that said, the funny was not brought
2/4/2008 11:19:45 AM
I'd say it's a little of both.
2/4/2008 11:19:54 AM
"earmuffs" is a little demeaning...especially if you made her do it.
2/4/2008 11:19:57 AM
Well if she ever says anything about Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom or whatever being hot, you have a free ticket to get as pissed at her as you want.
2/4/2008 11:20:37 AM
i'd say you both are guilty. you embarrassed her in front of friends/strangers (aka, your fault) and she chose to get upset over a pseudo-joke (aka, her fault).

^^ only if he wants to be a woman about it[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 11:22 AM. Reason : +^]
2/4/2008 11:21:57 AM
you should really test the waters by taping a pic of gisele up on your headboard so you can look at it while you are fucking your girlfriend
2/4/2008 11:22:44 AM
sounds like shes a whiny bitchthat or she was expecting something funny, so she could have just been disappointed instead

Yeah I watched the pats and the giants play the first time with some girls. They never watch football, they didn't know any of the rules, and had no grasp of strategy ("why do they keep running the ball, that never works, they should just pass it all the time!").But apparently they were patriots fans.

If this isnt a troll attempt, you are definitely an idiot for saying that.
2/4/2008 11:33:28 AM
^^that is awsome
2/4/2008 11:36:09 AM
I have actually never thought she was all that hot, compared to many other sports star wives/girlfriends.I mean her body is great, but in the face/hair she looks like a thinner and less meth'd out Fergie.[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 11:36 AM. Reason : ]

2/4/2008 11:37:46 AM
i think its funny. if my boyfriend said that to me, i'd agree with him.
2/4/2008 11:43:47 AM
It was your fault for these reasons:You should know your girlfriend well enough to know that she does not like you to think other women are hotter than her.You also are at fault for thinking you were funny. And you probably embarrassed her. just be careful what you say around her, since she seems easily offended.
2/4/2008 11:50:03 AM
you're an asshole. next time include her, don't make her earmuff. say something like, "whoa, [insert hot famous woman] is hot - I'd love to see you make out with her"that way you're not telling your gf that she's not hot, plus you're suggesting that she make out with another chick
2/4/2008 11:52:11 AM
the earmuffs are funny especially if you both enjoyed old school
2/4/2008 11:54:51 AM
new gf
2/4/2008 11:55:02 AM
Ok, no, I didn't make her do actual earmuffs...it was just an off-the-cuff comment to include in my observation of Gisele and my conversation with some of my guy friends. And no, this isn't a troll attempt. Real story. She got pissed and such and called me later bitching about it for like 20 minutes. And I was just So it totally seems a mixed bag of opinions in here...especially between girls and guys.
2/4/2008 1:09:01 PM
I'm a girl and think its stupid she got mad..... I'm about 90% sure I said G was fabulously hot before my S/O even made the comment. Now if you went on and on about the chick its one thing, but just to say she's hot is another. I wouldn't in any way think of it as an insult to me if it would have been said.... I'd actually more likely wonder what the hell was wrong with my S/O if he wasn't mildy attracted to someone so beautiful. That's all....
2/4/2008 1:13:56 PM
it's slightly demeaning and you embarrassed hershe should also be able to take a joke.both at fault/thread.i just wasted my 5000 post on THIS bs? [Edited on February 4, 2008 at 1:18 PM. Reason : ]

yeah that's kinda what i was going for with what i said ^^nice summary :-D
2/4/2008 1:22:15 PM
bitch can't take a joke.
2/4/2008 1:31:58 PM
1. What kind of girl gets pissed off because her boyfriend thinks a supermodel is hot?2. What kind of person thinks so little of their significant other that they say "earmuffs?"3. In what sort of social circle would a statement like this even be considered funny?4. If you think Gisele is so hot, why would you want to be Tom Brady? He's gay; and when I say he's gay, I don't mean he's a whiny pretty boy...he's actually gay.
2/4/2008 1:39:11 PM
i wouldn't have gotten so upset - but I'd probably be more likely to talk about hitting on girls than my husband.that being said, it still seems like you're being an asshole and a baby about it. it doesn't matter if she SHOULD or SHOULDN'T get upset about it. the fact is that she was and probably still is upset. if you want to sleep alone, then you'll hold onto this. alternately, if you want to stay in your relationship, you might want to understand what made her upset and try to be more sensitive to this in the future.[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 1:42 PM. She shouldn't have gotten upset...but just apologize and pick your battles. Now if shit like this continues, or it seems to be part of a trend of stupid shit that she gets pissed off about...then cut your losses and get the fuck out.If this is an outlier...something that she normally doesn't get pissed off about, then let it go.
2/4/2008 1:49:01 PM
We've already talked about it, I apologized for the earmuffs, she apologized etc. We're fine now, especially since this kind of shit doesn't normally get to her.Plus I was drinking. So we're all cool in that department, thanks for all the relationship advice TWW.I just really wanted to know what guys/girls/other people thought about the comment because we were at such odds on it's appropriateness. She couldn't believe that I couldn't see how it was offensive, and I obviously couldn't believe anyone would take offense to such a reference/comment.
2/4/2008 1:52:20 PM
yeah the earmuffs was sort of lame/uncalled for. If its something she would get offended over then why say it? Especially some lame joke such as that one. After a year of dating, have you not figured out what things make her upset?[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 1:53 PM. Reason : ^I don't think it was the comment/joke. Earmuffs can be degrading.]
2/4/2008 1:52:51 PM
That's the real issue. The fact that you'd say "earmuffs" says to me that you don't think very much of your girlfriend.
2/4/2008 2:04:52 PM
I don't see how earmuffs is degrading at all! I think its funny... People are too damned sensitive...
2/4/2008 2:12:23 PM
2/4/2008 2:13:39 PM
"Earmuffs" isn't degrading as a personal statement, but it's basically like saying, "Hey, I think so little of our relationship that I'm insecure talking about women I'll never meet while you're in the room."
2/4/2008 2:15:21 PM
2/4/2008 2:19:55 PM
Well, my boyfriend from high school used to do this thing where he'd place his hands over my ears while he said something (which we both knew I could hear) but it was still cute. I knew he had a thing for Audrey Hepburn that he couldn't explain and I didn't care to understand, I just accepted it as a matter-of-fact. Didn't both me, and he turned it into a joke over the years.
2/4/2008 2:20:16 PM
Just thinking out loud here...does it change anything if the woman in question is dead?
2/4/2008 2:25:26 PM
The gf or the model?[Edited on February 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM. Reason : lol]
2/4/2008 2:29:57 PM
The model/actress/object of desire.
2/4/2008 2:30:56 PM
Nah, it doesn't change anything. Same if she's really old (Anna Karina ).
