Ever since I moved into my new apartment, I've had a consistent 4.8 Mbps connection, but lately, its dropped to about 4 or so max and usually to between 500 and 1500 kpbs nightly. Its been a real pain in the ass. Some technician is coming out tomorrow to check the connection or some bullshit, but they've been giving us the runaround about why it's been slowing. Does anyone know how exactly the system works. Do they have hubs that neighborhoods or areas connect to? When I first moved in, there weren't a lot of people here who looked like they'd have internet, but they built a bunch of new apartment and a lot of college kid types have moved in and I was wondering if a higher usage in an area would reduce our bandwidth.

^^ wtf?? how the hell is that possible??
3/4/2008 1:40:42 AM
Clearly because of the fact that the internet is a series of tubes. All tubes, however, are not created equal.

So this level 3 isp is only for big companies right?
3/4/2008 2:42:50 AM
I mean, they'll lease a circuit of to whoever has cash. Prices will very based on capacity/sla/location etc.
3/4/2008 2:51:39 AM
We are upgrading to a GigE connection with Level3. I will have to post a new speed test once that is in

Has anyone with RoadRunner been having issues where their 404 error redirect pages (RoadRunner search page with advertisements) comes up WAY too often? I mean I've been getting them about 20% of the time for the last 2 days on sites like cnn.com, wral.com, and wikipedia.org

^^Change your DNS entries ... it's likely that RoadRunner's DNS is screwing up due to the recent changes in their 404 manipulation. Well maybe not, but I have never been impressed with their DNS handling.

well this is annoying. I'm at my Grandmother's house in Florida, and her broadband is 6x faster than my own....

26 000 kbps = 3 250 KBpsthere's no way that's rightthe most i cap out at is 760 KBps from anything - newsgroups, open-source mirrors, etc.comcast only offers two plans in my area - one is for 12Mbps and one for 16Mbps but this says i'm at 26Mbps basicallywtf?this is just getting my burst speeds - whenever i get something from newsgroups i burst up to 2.0 MBps starting out and then cap out to 760 KBps, and when i upload it's the same - bursts really high and then goes down to like 43-45 KBpswish i could keep "bursting"...[Edited on March 22, 2008 at 6:05 PM.
