they ruined the opportunity for the most badass superhero ever, zombie captain america
2/1/2008 1:45:14 PM
zombie captain america > all

^^^ and ^ Both would have been/could be very interesting storylines, no doubt. I would likely gravitate more toward the zombie Cap. Punisher is too much at odds with other superheroes--I mean, Spider-Man and Daredevil put him in jail if I remember correctly, didn't they?Besides, superheroes these days need superpowers--except for Batman. And he compensates with his various gadgets, his lair, and his world-class ability as a detective.
2/1/2008 2:25:19 PM
Bucky is a bad ass captain america.
2/1/2008 2:29:29 PM
zombie punisher in capt america garb gets my vote.
2/1/2008 2:40:10 PM
^^ Yeah, the anti-gun crowd will love the new Captain America.[/sarcasm]
2/1/2008 2:42:05 PM
steve rogers 4 life p.s.
2/1/2008 2:54:48 PM
This is by far not the worst they could have done. They could have done much worse by using magic, technobabble, or some other pulled-from-ass phlebotinum to resurrect the previous Captain America. This is just another guy donning the uniform, which could be interesting in and of itself. It will at least generate inter-character drama as people who knew and fought along side Captain America will see this one as an imposter, not like his interpretation of the role, etc. And the new Captain America will have to grow into his new role and earn the respect of those around him.Now will the writers do any of this? Probably not, Marvel seems to be missing lots of golden opportunities as of late. And in all likelihood, somebody probably will revive Steve Rogers, making all of this bullshit moot anyway.
2/1/2008 2:57:24 PM
SHOULD HAVE BEEN COBERT, AMIRITE?
2/1/2008 3:30:33 PM
So whatever happened to U.S. Agent?
2/1/2008 6:49:26 PM
ok, i haven't read a comic in, oh, probably 12 years, so how are they gonna kill off cap with a fucking sniper? thats like the most dishonorable way he could go
2/2/2008 8:32:27 AM
It actually was worse then that - to my knowledge (I just skimmed Civil War) he was shot by the sniper, then shot several times point blank by an agent of Shield who had been brain washed. I believe the agent was also his girlfriend and pregnant with his child...

Rogers will be back within two years i'd bet

Capt America with no superpowers, how gay...
2/5/2008 4:04:24 PM
And guns. WTF. Hell, I remember when Captain America resigned because he shot and killed one of Flag Smasher's goons during a hostage crisis. He had absolutely no other choice but to shoot the guy, but the guilt from having done it pushed him over the edge. That was way back when U.S. Agent started being trained by Taskmaster.

2/5/2008 10:27:04 PM
^^ Um. . .it's actually closer to the character's origin. As a "super-soldier" in the 1940s, Captain America was a part of the war effort and was issued a side arm--I mean, those Nazis weren't going to just lay down for him.
2/6/2008 2:21:43 AM
Funny, I've never seen one piece of artwork with him using a weapon other than the shield. Bucky, sure, but not Cap. Have any images?
2/6/2008 9:57:33 AM
Ultimate Captain America seems perfectly willing to use guns and kill guys.Yet another reason why the Ultimate universe rocks.
2/6/2008 10:10:03 AM
2/6/2008 10:49:31 AM
I'm not saying it's not possible, just that I've never seen it. Of course, my knowledge of Captain America lore only goes back to about the early 80's. If he did have a gun, when did he stop using it? And why'd he change his mind about it? I could definitely believe that these changes would have simply been retconned. Oh, and another question - when did he start using the round vibranium shield?
2/6/2008 2:00:12 PM
the early batman used a gun here and there, tooround shield showed up in 1941
2/6/2008 2:58:02 PM
I saw this thread and thought it was going to be about a Captain America live action movie
2/6/2008 10:16:12 PM
marko to the rescue--again!Hell, a lot of superheroes used guns before, well, everything became so wussified. And I think The Spirit did, too, among others.[Edited on February 7, 2008 at 3:08 AM. Reason : .]
2/7/2008 3:06:56 AM
I definitely remember the Phantom having guns. Twin .45's, I think. And the Lone Ranger and Dick Tracy certainly used them extensively. It's just so strange to me that I have no memory of Captain America ever having used one... I guess I've always just been under the impression that he was completely anti-gun.
2/7/2008 9:07:26 AM
^ Well, it was before either of our times. But still, it's kind of hard for a soldier--super or otherwise--to be anti-gun.
2/7/2008 11:24:50 AM
There's a loading screen of WW2 Cap holding a Thompson submachine gun in Marvel: Utimate Alliance.
2/8/2008 3:00:06 PM
Huh! Never played it, but I'd like to see it. Wonder if I can find a screencap.
2/8/2008 3:17:05 PM

Hard to sound intimidating with a name like "Bucky". Maybe that's just my unique social conditioning at play.
6/17/2009 1:23:33 PM
FYI.Report: Captain America will live again
6/29/2009 8:45:23 AM
