Well, it's not like I fucked up the flash and the board is a nice paperweight. So I've got an E8400 and the board needs to be flashed so the damn thing will work. How the shit do I go about doing that when it freezes shortly after the splash screen?

Oh come on, what do you think this is- some kind of hangout for sadistic jackasses? Nobody's going to tell you that you're fucked unless you're out of warranty.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS via the jumpers? It's by no means a guaranteed fix, but that's the first place I'd start. I should clarify - does it POST at all? (Do you hear a beep?)

no beepage. doesn't complete the post.have tried clearing the cmos

Sounds like you're gonna have to drop in another processor to load the flash. Is it possible to save the flash to a disk/cd/usb drive and boot to the bios setup to load it?

some board have a recovery mode where they'll suck down the BIOS off a floppy or USB key inserted on boot. It unconditionally rewrites whatevers in the ROM.edit:but it seems like it won't even recognise the process which is why you need to flash... well... you'll need to get a working proc.[Edited on January 31, 2008 at 12:41 AM. ^ here's to hoping

this is why i flashed first with my E6600, then put my E8400 in no really you're not stuck at all in fact a lot of manufacturer's can send you the BIOS chip to replace or you can RMA it and they'll flash it for you or send you one with the latest already flashed.how far it completes the POST is a good indicator of where it's having it's problem.for me because of high performance memory i actually had to remove a stick of memory, boot with one stick in single channel at low timings and 1.8v, then POST, go into BIOS, set timings and increase voltage, THEN stick my second stick of memory in and it would work fine... not sure if this is the case, but it's not necessarily the CPU, so ANY indication of WHERE it locks up in the POST process would be helpful

^ Wish I could tell you. Now it's not even giving me a display. Have tried taking ram out.I wish I could just throw in another proc, but this is my first core anything. Bad thing is, I need this to be up and running by friday
1/31/2008 12:47:28 AM
Bah, from everything I've seen thus far it's def a BIOS issue. Somehow I snagged an old ass BIOS revision and it absolutely hates the processor. Probably going to have to RMA

find somebody with a com0patible processor, borrow it, load it, flash it, change processor back out.
1/31/2008 1:55:09 AM
^ that's what i'm trying to do now
1/31/2008 2:29:02 AM
fuck me, the one person I know for sure that has one is being a whiny douche and saying "it's too much trouble"

This machine is killing me.I was able to get my hands on another proc so that I could flash the BIOS. Awesome. Got windows up and running on the new processor just fine. Now another problem. USB isn't working at all. Devices are getting power....but that's it. Windows says there's an error with the device. I've downloaded the newest drivers for the board. Nothing. I can't even use a mouse right now. I can't believe ALL 6 fucking USB ports are busted?! And to top it off there's an unknown device listed under USB devices in the device manager even when nothing is plugged in.Someone shoot me. Or help

2/2/2008 9:34:57 PM
Sounds like you don't have the driver installed for the USB controller really. Under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" do you see any "USB Root Hub" or "Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller" installed?
2/2/2008 9:56:39 PM
took the pci - usb out since it was doing no goodbut now have 8 intel ich9 blah blah blah controllersequal number of root hubsand 1 unknownunknown won't let me force any drivers on it
2/2/2008 10:04:38 PM

2/2/2008 11:04:04 PM
If I hadn't just yanked it out and packed it up I would. I'm so fed up with it I'm willing to live with neweggs restocking fee even though I'm 90% sure the thing is defective.OH DID I FORGET TO MENTION I NOTICED IT WAS OPENBOX AFTER I ORDERED IT?
2/2/2008 11:44:57 PM
Sucks, I need to get a new mobo and shit and upgrade my desktop or just buy a badass enough laptop that I don't care anymore.
2/2/2008 11:46:03 PM
