If you were to purchase a messenger bag, which brand you get? $200 is approximately the price limit. I want something durable that will last many years. Timbuktu?Tumi?Keen?Osprey?Other?
1/28/2008 4:17:15 PM
don't you mean "man purse"?
1/28/2008 4:19:09 PM
Yes, a large version of a murse.
1/28/2008 4:22:14 PM
heh, i hope you have a laptop
1/28/2008 4:23:32 PM
Have you got "the gay"?
1/28/2008 4:26:32 PM
^ No, hate gays but love to accessorize. And yes, it must hold a laptop and look a little more mature than a backpack.
1/28/2008 4:30:49 PM
I bought one to carry my laptop in for 4.98 at Target and I love it.
1/28/2008 4:42:33 PM
i dunno if it's manly enough...[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 4:46 PM. Reason : ]

otherwise, i like banana's leather messenger bags...or if you're going for something with a balistic nylon feel, crumpler.
1/28/2008 4:49:48 PM
REI has that design your own messenger bag thing.
1/28/2008 5:02:53 PM
Get a leather one for sure. (My vote goes for Fossil... but I don't really know the brands you listed very well)www.fossil.comTop 3 (IMO):1. Graham Messenger2. Dakota Messenger3. Clapton Messengerwww.wilsonsleather.comAlso, I love my leather jacket from Wilson's leather. I've had it for atleast 8 years now, and it still looks great. Wilson's is having a "Final Clearance Sale" right now, so you could probably get a really nice leather messenger for a great price. After a quick glance online, it looks like they're averaging about $60 for $100-$150 bags.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 5:17 PM. Reason : more]
1/28/2008 5:03:46 PM
CRUMPLER!
1/28/2008 5:30:33 PM
so is it socially acceptable to have a murse now? i know jack bauer started wearing one
1/28/2008 6:24:44 PM
It's not a murse if you sling it over your head. Only if you carry it on one shoulder. And there is a big difference between cyclist messenger bags and your typical bookbag messenger bags. A cyclists one will sit really low and wrap part of the way around your hips so that it actually stays put when you're cranking on a bicycle. The ones like alibaby posted will not stay on your back when you're on a bike. They will slide around to the front and be in the way of your legs. Just an FYI if you're considering something for bicycling.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 7:11 PM. Reason : l]

For nicer looking, go with Jack Spade.http://www.jackspade.com/shop/home.phpFor bomb-proof, I would say Timbuktu.

Jack Spade bags are so plain. No character.

1/28/2008 8:44:42 PM
timbuk2 will last forever. they are really nice, but they aren't the classiest looking bags.

patagonia makes a really nice bag imotwo sizes i thinkand if it breaks or gets wornout, send it back and you'll get a new one (95% of the time, or they'll repair it, but ive never had them do that)that's actually with all patagonia products, and most people dont know that

I'm looking for a bag that can be worn as a messenger bag, AND that can also be worn like a traditional bookbag / backpack. Do they make such a product? If so what brand / model is best? [Edited on January 28, 2008 at 10:32 PM. Reason : edit]

i got a crumpler for christmas and i love it. get one of those.edit: also look at freitag - i saw a few of them when i was in europe. mainly cool cause they used recycled truck tarps, not sure about anything else regarding them though. but definitely look at crumpler.[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 6:38 PM. freitag bags are neat, but nothing more. expensive as hell too.
1/29/2008 11:20:09 PM
I'd kind of like to get one of these, since my laptop bag isn't big enough to carry much of anything besides the laptop itself. $1-200 seems like an awful lot to spend though.
1/29/2008 11:24:24 PM
got a ben sherman one. it's perfect for the shit i carry (laptop, notebook, book, pens, headphones, small etc's.)

J.Crew makes a great messenger bag, if you are willing to pay a little bit. I got mine a few Christmases ago and its a great for a carry-on bag or overnight trips. Very similar, if not exactly the same, as the one in that picture from '24'
3/1/2009 12:23:50 AM
Messenger bags will mess up your back. It's not the weight that does it, it's the imbalance. Use a wheeled airport luggage thing, there are some really light ones.

So i'm looking for a bag to replace my large back pack that i carry to school. I also want to be able to carry it around while hanging out and not be too obtrusive. Been looking at timbuk2 and mountain hardwear bags. Stuck between these two:http://www.rei.com/product/772295http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/laptop/laptop-messenger-style/commute-slimAnyone have any experience with these? Everyone tells me to go timbuk2. ^i agree for larger bags. I'm not trying to carry that much. I have a 10" netbook and maybe some books.
3/1/2009 2:59:02 AM
i've got both. the mountain hardware is good if you carry a lot of shit and have to have it attached to your bag as it has a lot of nooks and crannys that the other bag doesn't.the timbuk2 bag fit some stuff, your laptop, and some other crap.i've had the timbuk2 bag for a decade now and it's never let me down. the mountain hardware bag is a recent addition so the jury is still out. nothing bad about it. quality is good.i will say this, if you are a simple person who doesn't need a lot of bullshit and is looking for a bag that is functional without being complicated, the timbuk2 bag is your best bet.

After reading this thread, I conclude that some people have some insecurity about their sexuality, and an unfocused hatred towards gays. All this because of a bag to carry your stuff.
