I searched and I am not putting this in the 64 pg "do you have a ps3" thread.

I have opened all the ports on my linksys router listed from the PS3 manual.

I set the PS3 with a static IP address

I went to ipconfig/all in dos and got my DNS, etc... I only had a primary, no secondary so I used one that is supposively "open" that I saw on other message boards.

Is there anything else I should be doing to get type 2? I have a TWC modem... a vonage box and a linksys router.

Any help would be appreciated!!

What are you trying to do?

I hit "auto config" in the PS3, entered my WPA key, and it was done. Didn't have to touch my router. Everything works perfectly.

I pulled up my linksys manual - I see where UPnP forwading is located... I do not see one clear thing that says UPnP enable/disable - rather under it there are a LOT of options to be enabled. not sure what I am and what I am not supposed to enable.

^^ yeah, I did 3658, and the other 4 that the PS3 manual stated. I even forwarded one I found on portforwarding.com for COD4.

Man, I dunno then. I used auto-config with my PS3 and have it connected to my WPA2 secured network. No port forwarding, no static IPs, no special configuration at all. It all just worked. I have D-Link DGL-4300, and there is a pretty simple check box option that says "Enable uPnP". Last thing I would try is setting up your PS3 as the DMZ on your router.

^ thanks man.. turns out I was looking at the wrong place for UPnP (I was looking at UPnP Forwarding). I found this link shortly after:

Okay, so its emabarassing... but I think I realize my problem - and its a big one:

I have not assigned my computer a static IP address. The reason I did not when I set up the network is because when I go ipconfig/all I do not get a secondary DNS, just the primary - which is the same as the router.

If I do not have a Domain Name - how the hell do I set up a static IP address?

I have all the port forwards and the PS3 ready to roll... but I guess that wont work till this is done right?

also - should point out my router does not automatically show the DNS - it tells me to go to DynDNS.com, but for the love of me I cant figure out wtf I'm supposed to do on their site... to get a primary and secondary DNS.

You shouldnt need to set any static IPs.

Hook the router to the modem, i assume this works since your PC is on the internet.

Then in the router, enable DHCP server so that it'll assign all your LAN IPs automatically. Set the the PS3 and all network PCs to 'obtain IP auto'. Make sure in the router that the MAC address filter is off, theres no max # of PCs (or make it like 10, etc), turn off security for now.

Reboot everything on the LAN. They should all get their IPs. If the PCs do, then the PS3 should be able to too. In the PS3, just go the "Easy" setup in Network Settings, and keep clicking right. All the defaults and auto whatevers should work fine.

I set no static IPs on anything, no port forwarding or opening, literally nothing fancy at all. Maybe just hard reset the router and start over w/ everything to the default/auto modes. Perhaps youre over complicating things.

^I'm with him, just tear it all down and start over using Easy setup. Reset your router to factory settings while you're at it. You don't need any static IPs.

enable DMZ, see if that works.

if not switch routers. i spent too much time on the same linksys you have, just the other day i bought a D-link DIR 625. works perfect, didnt have to touch a single thing with the router settings.

like a lot of people have said, linksys is a hit or miss

Hmm.. I do have MAC filtering.. my pc, ps3 and laptop. Would that really cause an issue though?

I was hesitant to do DMZ just b/c it seems like such a threat - that means someone would have access to my PS3.. or my computer via the ps3? Not sure how that works...

good point, it is an old router. I can play online.. not sure all this shits worth it.
