So, I used to play (at least tried) to play guitar back when I was about 13-14 years old. Started out playing classical, which was actually pretty fun, then moved to electric.

Anyway, picked up the electric guitar and and didn't see much success because I was an impatient 13 year old. I'd like to pick back up the guitar but need to buy new gear. I pretty much suck, and can only play basic Green Day and Blink songs from back in the day.

Any good recommendations on guitars and amps? I was just looking at a basic mexican strat, but don't know shit about amps. Also, should I just start back trying to pick up songs from tabs or should I get one of those snazzy chord books and start practicing those?

Also, Teles >>>>> Strats.

For me, the best practice amp deal in the world is the Epiphone Valve Junior at $120. It's a 5W tube combo that sounds damn good for what it is, and the price is phenomenal.

^ I've played that amp and also recommend it as a great value.
