Will he lose a tournament this year?Obviously he will, but watching greatness like this is unbelievable...If anyone will EVER win a Grand Slam in modern golf it's going to be Tiger. With Torrey Pines the site of the US Open it would surprise me if he didn't win the Masters and the US Open... then anything can happen.
1/26/2008 5:28:44 PM
Haha.Greatness and golf should never go together.
1/26/2008 5:29:56 PM
what
1/26/2008 5:30:29 PM
i really think he can take augusta and the us open this year. i say he wins 3 majors this year: the masters, the us and british opens[Edited on January 26, 2008 at 9:48 PM. Reason : asdf]

1/26/2008 9:54:37 PM
dweedle i know you are kiddingtour championship
1/26/2008 11:05:19 PM
is that what they call itjust PGA Tour Championship
1/26/2008 11:07:04 PM
mmmm hmmmmmm... And I want to see tiger get all this done
1/26/2008 11:09:01 PM
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he loses all of them.federer lost the australian open.he's probably the most dominant athlete in any sport.anything is possible.
1/26/2008 11:54:38 PM
the PGA championship is the major. The TOUR championship is at the end of the season and only the top 30 (or so) players on the PGA tour are invited. Big difference. Tiger might not lose a tournament this year if he keeps playing like he is right now. His swing looks as good as it has since 2000 IMO

^ dang right and by far.i doubt woods will be able to do it, honestly
1/27/2008 3:53:59 AM
I think the only person who even comes close to Tiger's greatness in sports is MJ, and I don't even think he does. Anyone that is into sports should feel lucky enough to be alive during the Woods era. You can tell your grandchildren you saw him play.
1/27/2008 5:32:52 PM
What about Gretzky?
1/27/2008 6:08:25 PM
1/27/2008 6:32:11 PM
I can't believe we're talking about a wrestler and Tiger and MJ in the same thread.
1/27/2008 7:27:44 PM
1/27/2008 7:46:56 PM
Gretzky dominated his sport and really put in on the map just as Tiger has too. Those two are a tossup. Before the Australian Open, I would have put Federer there too but he might be slipping some.
1/27/2008 11:36:47 PM
^he loses in the semifinals and you're saying he's slipping?? Good Christ, he was in the last 9 GS finals! Please understand sports.
1/27/2008 11:41:06 PM
I am saying his dominance might be coming to an end.....please read my post.Do you really think Federer belongs with Tiger and Gretzky?
1/27/2008 11:47:08 PM
lol
1/27/2008 11:48:15 PM
Federer should be in the discussion. Period.
1/27/2008 11:48:58 PM
Ehh maybe...I just think that tennis is down right now with he and Nadal being the only top players. Hopefully Djokovic is going to step up and be there for good. I still think Tiger's 12 year dominance and continued run is greater than any athlete save Gretzky.[Edited on January 27, 2008 at 11:55 PM. Reason : V I just think he needs to sustain it like Sampras/Borg/Agassi etc. did]
1/27/2008 11:52:00 PM
I agree with you on Tiger and possibly on Federer but he SHOULD be in the discussion, whether tennis is down right now or not. Thats always debatable, the number of W's under Federer's name is not.
1/27/2008 11:53:38 PM
i mean, you just can't say, conclusively, that someone is slipping b/c they made it to the semis of a GS event. that's just absurd
1/27/2008 11:59:25 PM
To be fair he was whipped in straight sets in an event that he has owned.I look it at this way. Tiger>>>>>#2 Mickelson, Els, Furyk, Vijay, etc. more so than Federer>Nadal, Djokovic. The gap between #1 and #2 has been absurd since Duval's 2-year run in the late 90s.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 12:05 AM. Reason : V at one point yes for like 6 months. Good call. Still #1 for about all of 10 years.]
1/28/2008 12:02:45 AM
^ didn't Vijay surpass Woods as number 1 since then?
1/28/2008 12:04:34 AM
Mickelson had a chance to get on that level at winged foot...3 majors in a row and 2 left for a possible grand slam. Nobody in the world playing better than him, and he fucking sucked a dick for coke on the 18th tee box. Anyway...I dont think the fact that federer has 2 more competitors than tiger at this point makes him any less dominant. One bad day in tennis and you're out of the tournament. One bad day in golf and you can make up for it. Thats what makes Federer's run so impressive.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 12:07 AM. Reason : ]

whole lot of ignorance in this threadfor serious
1/28/2008 12:14:38 AM
I think we can all appreciate greatness... but lets face it... high school and college (well, even Olympic) wrestling is not on the same level of America's consciousness as the PGA Tour or Grand Slam tennis is... not to take anything away from Sanderson (what he did was amazing) but when American's think of greatness in sports MJ and Tiger are going to come up more than not...^^ I think the point is the players on the PGA Tour from top to bottom are better now than in any point they have ever been in history even if there is no McEnroe to Tigers Connors or whatever... You can't say the same in tennis... I was hopeful Nadal would be that guy but outside of Clay he is a sacrificial lamb to Federer for the most part (scares not withstanding).[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 10:55 AM. Reason : x]

If your talking about impact on the sporting world then wrestling is not even part of the discussion. I admit Gretzky should be in that group. The only tennis that comes close is Sampras, but wrestling....Puuuulease. Seriously
1/28/2008 12:12:21 PM
I'm getting called out b/c I don't think a wrestler should be compared to Tiger and MJ? Are you kidding me?We all have our favorite sports and we all think our sports are the best and take the most talent, etc.But the fact of the matter is this...the best athletes in the US don't wrestle (unless they do during football's off season). If they did, then I would give this wrestler guy more credit. But if you are a great athlete, and you have incredible speed, reflexes, and strength, then you will play football (or baseball, basketball, etc) in college and get paid to do it as a pro. If you can't cut it at that level, then you will wrestle.Tiger beats the best golfers in the world. And everyone (including the best athletes in every sport) plays golf. I'm not even sure why we're having this argument.
1/28/2008 12:54:58 PM
The only wrestler that can be mentioned in the same breath as MJ and Tiger:
1/28/2008 1:03:01 PM
i'd just like to chime in and say pretty much nobody cares about some wrestler with an incredible W-L record when comparing them to more FAMOUS athletes like Tiger, MJ, etc who play in SPORTS THE GENERAL PUBLIC CARES ABOUT^hahahahps ric flair is mike gminski's bitch[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 1:04 PM. YOU CAN NOT DISCUSS ANY WRESTLER WHILE HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT ATHLETE'S WHO HAVE MADE THE GREATEST IMPACT ON SPORTS...who cares what his record is....it's wrestling.....end of story !!
1/28/2008 4:08:33 PM
once again, the statement i was replying too wasnt about the 'biggest impact on sports' it was most dominating athletes in any sport. l2read. i mean i respect golf, but saying a GOLFER can be the most dominant athlete ever while a wrestler cant? their skills are completely different but at worst they require the same amount of skill, while one is 10x physically more demanding than the other.and you cant use the faster reflex, quicker, stronger argument in a golfer versus wrestler argument. so id like to see youre reasoning behind why a golfer can be a dominant athlete but a wrestler cant.the problem with this argument is that most people that argue against wrestling havent wrestled and have just played the other sports. and most certainly not competitively. if you ever notice, those that argue FOR wrestling usually wrestled *in addition* to being successful in other sports and thus have a pretty fair leg to stand on for comparison.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 4:25 PM. Ok I wrestled in HS....I know it is a tough demanding sport (hardest part being making weight). So I will rephrase my statement to wrestling - who cares And actually the subject is about Tiger, and I added an additional comment saying that I think he has made the greatest impact on sports....my opinion[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 4:48 PM. You hijacked a Tiger Woods thread to talk about wrestling.
1/28/2008 5:25:51 PM
id bet they wouldnt. and that also doesnt mean they would beat them in their respective sports.but that argument doesnt work because you could say that about lots of sports. Tiger is great, and the best golfer in the world hands down and i enjoy watching him play to an extent and i hate golf as a game so that is saying something. But just because everyone 'plays' golf doesnt mean everyone has strived to be good and practiced at it day and night and gone through competitive competition driving all over the US to MAKE yourself good at it. no matter how good an athlete, if you dont have a passion and drive to play that SPECIFIC sport you arent going to be as good as someone who does. I mean who knows, I might have been a great golfer, but playing a sport with that much down time is like pulling teeth for me. Im sure there are a lot of football players who would make good wrestlers, and i guarantee that the best wrestlers would be very good football players.in fact ive often thought of what kind of nasty linemen football has missed out on for people who became standout greco-roman wrestlers.the funny thing is that im not even trying to say that wrestling is better than any other sport my only argument is that the few standouts should even be considered for most dominant athletes ever and everyone is getting their panties in a wad. So the question is, not will tiger win the slam this year, but by how many shots will he win each major? amirite?
1/28/2008 5:58:54 PM
^^^If you're going to argue that the best athletes don't gravitate towards the money sports and that there are wrestlers that pass up on pro careers to wrestle for no money, then I'm at a loss. B/c you're an idiot. And Ronnie Lott would have kicked that guy's ass.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 6:04 PM. Reason : ^^^]

I have to agree that Bill Goldberg's 173 consecutive victories quite impressive. When I think of elite athletes that dominate their respective sports I think Kobayashi eating hot dogs and Sanderson getting gay with other guys. Overlooking them for guys like Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Wayne Gretzky, and Michael Jordan is beyond ignorant[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 6:28 PM. Reason : ]
